{"id":1040,"date":"2015-07-18T08:43:56","date_gmt":"2015-07-18T07:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/?p=1040"},"modified":"2015-07-18T08:43:56","modified_gmt":"2015-07-18T07:43:56","slug":"march-2015-a-battle-of-wills-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/2015\/07\/18\/march-2015-a-battle-of-wills-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"March 2015 &#8211; A battle of wills begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where the heck is Malawi?\u00a0\u00a0 The way my husband is behaving you\u2019d think it was the back of beyond and that he\u2019ll be waving me off a la Paddington with a marmalade sandwich in my pocket and a label attached to my coat!\u00a0\u00a0 We\u2019ve made contact with Soroptimists there for goodness sake!\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ll be working in the hospital, not backpacking in the wild.\u00a0\u00a0 They have internet, albeit not always reliable but I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll be fine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s really not happy with my proposed mini \u2013 VSO trip; apparently I\u2019m not supposed to spend the money from his Mum this way.\u00a0\u00a0 We watch Comic Relief and this doesn\u2019t help.\u00a0\u00a0 He feels that, if I must, I should just give the money to the Friends of Sick Children in Malawi and let them decide what will help.\u00a0\u00a0 Our two daughters are most bemused; they can\u2019t understand why I don\u2019t just donate my share of my mother-in-law\u2019s inheritance either.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>But that\u2019s not the point, I\u2019m a<strong> Soroptimist<\/strong>, and I want to make a difference!<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of my mottos is that the difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will whilst the other comes from a strong won\u2019t.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0I\u2019m getting to the end of my working career and I don\u2019t want to put any more things off \u2018until I retire\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0I\u2019ve always wanted to do VSO so I will do this and won\u2019t budge.\u00a0\u00a0 Reluctantly Dave agrees to me travelling in June when he is away for one week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We spend much of March on holiday ourselves and I\u2019m not much use to the group working on the Malawi Quadrennial bid.\u00a0\u00a0 I still haven\u2019t told Elaine and club about my intentions; I decide to wait until arrangements are a little firmer. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0More guilt.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Malawi<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The British Protectorate of Nyasaland<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/07\/Map-of-Malawi.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1042\" src=\"\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/07\/Map-of-Malawi-300x173.png\" alt=\"Map of Malawi\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/07\/Map-of-Malawi-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/07\/Map-of-Malawi.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where the heck is Malawi?\u00a0\u00a0 The way my husband is behaving you\u2019d think it was&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":523,"featured_media":1042,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[27],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1040","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sharons-blog"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>March 2015 - A battle of wills begins | News | Blog | Events | SI Kenilworth and District<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI Kenilworth and District : Blog &amp; News : March 2015 - A battle of wills begins : Keep up to date with the latest news, articles and events from the Soroptimists of SI Kenilworth and District .
