{"id":1280,"date":"2015-10-27T18:25:04","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T18:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/?p=1280"},"modified":"2015-10-27T18:26:58","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T18:26:58","slug":"public-speaking-in-istanbul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kenilworth-and-district\/2015\/10\/27\/public-speaking-in-istanbul\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Speaking in Istanbul"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The 20th Soroptimist International Convention in Istanbul certainly lived up all the expectations of a great Convention, but for me the highlights came on \u00a0Sunday July 12th 2015 with an all inspiring \u201cPublic Speaking\u00a0 Showcase\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Fresh ideas and Empowering Women was a theme effortlessly demonstrated by five highly capable young \u00a0women, aged 18yrs to 22 yrs, setting out on their own paths from different countries across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Our own Flora Garner representing England, Ciara Maguire from the Republic of Ireland, Alana Hughes from Northern Ireland, Rose Lakoro Pitoj from Papua New Guinea and Ton Yan Ru from Singapore were the chosen speakers. They each inspired Soroptimists from around the world with their ambitions, conviction, knowledge and vision for their own lives and those of women and girls.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1277\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1277\" style=\"width: 155px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/10\/Georgie-in-Istanbul-publicspeaking.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1277\" src=\"\/kenilworth-and-district\/files\/2015\/10\/Georgie-in-Istanbul-publicspeaking.jpg\" alt=\"Flora and Georgie in Istanbul\" width=\"155\" height=\"211\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1277\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flora and Georgie in Istanbul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end of this session the whole, packed auditorium, arose and gave these five extremely talented \u00a0young people a well deserved standing ovation-quite an emotional experience which I will never forget. They were then presented with a plaque commemorating their achievement by Immediate \u00a0past International \u00a0President Ann Garvie.<\/p>\n<p>This event could not have been possible for Flora without the generosity of clubs and individuals \u00a0within the Midland Arden Region.
