Despite the restrictions due to Covid 19 we’re most definitely carrying on as women of action!<\/h1>\n

We’ve taken part in a host of activities to educate, enable and empower ourselves and support our local community and generally wave the flag to ‘Stand Up for Women’.\u00a0 \u00a0We marked the SIGBI Day of Action by posting on our Social Media to great local effect.\u00a0 \u00a0 We’ve achieved another first for our Club in the world of culture.\u00a0 \u00a0And reflected on how Lockdown has affected ourselves and our actions.<\/p>\n

A spot of virtual theatre in action to educate ourselves\"Zoom<\/a><\/h2>\n

We enjoyed a first by watching a two handed performance live over Zoom.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It had been devised, rehearsed and produced in lockdown again all by the wonders of Zoom.<\/p>\n

\"man<\/a>The production was titled “The Betrayal” and ran for about 20 minutes.\u00a0 \u00a0It was inspired by Pinter’s great play of the same name.\u00a0 We had an introduction from the director, watched the performance and then had a question and answer session with the director and actors.\u00a0 Despite the play being about an affair, the two performers were a married couple in real life.\u00a0 \u00a0This meant at least they didn’t have to be socially distanced!<\/div>\n

Celebrating SIGBI<\/em><\/a> Day of Action 18th July<\/h2>\n

With\u00a0 Covid 19 upsetting all our plans, SIGBI\u00a0 changed this year’s theme from Climate Change to #SoroptimistsConnect.<\/p>\n

Our Club decided to connect with our local community by supporting the local foodbank.\u00a0 \u00a0 Many of us gave the money that we would have spent at our July meetings.\u00a0 \u00a0The final total was a magnificent \u00a3700.\u00a0 \u00a0President Gill met with Andy Bower from the Trussell Trust<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 Andy asked for our donation to be given in cash rather than goods.\u00a0 \u00a0Sadly they are expecting a spike<\/em><\/a> in demand from the end of August into the autumn as the furlough arrangements come to an end.\u00a0 \u00a0This will help them fill any gaps.<\/p>\n

We haven’t forgotten about Climate Change.\u00a0 \u00a0We’ll be looking at what our Club members are doing to reduce single use plastics later in the year.<\/p>\n

And what were our thoughts about this time 19 weeks ago?<\/h2>\n

At the start of Lockdown some members accepted the challenge to express their thoughts in 19 words.\u00a0 \u00a0Here they are.<\/p>\n

Thankful for sunshine, and now the rain, frustrated by technology but frustration released by singing with my chorus<\/p>\n

What are you feeling in lock down?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Grateful \u2013 for health and environment, for all key workers. Missing \u00a0being with and hugging family and friends<\/p>\n

What have you been doing in lock down?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Appreciating nature, walking, gardening, spending too much time on the computer \u2013 (can\u2019t walk to work meetings!) Cooking for Molly<\/p>\n

LOCKDOWN<\/p>\n

Walking, talking,
\nReading, feeding,
\nCooking, looking,
\nZooming, brooming,
\nFiling, dialling,
\nDigging, jigging,
\nDecorating, chocolating,
\nOnlining, pining,
\nHair despair.<\/p>\n

Lately\u00a0I have been zooming, baking, emailing, learning history, watching streamed plays and sewing some scrubs bags.<\/p>\n

Walking; Zooming (exercise classes, quizzes); WhatsApp-ing (laughs, chats); Cooking (Molly\u2019s Meals); Virtual theatre-going (thank you NT and others streaming).<\/p>\n

Missing hugs, my best friend’s funeral. Grateful for internet, exercise outside, garden, NHS, keyworkers, rainbows. Still hate housework!<\/p>\n

By weekly applause<\/p>\n

Sewing scrubs bags, learning web editing skills, jogging (intermittently), cycling without traffic, eating too much, gardening, bread making, zooming<\/p>\n

Stayed \u00a0in touch using \u00a0with friends and family , enjoyed \u00a0daily exercise including getting my bike back on the road<\/p>\n

Reflecting, cogitating, musing, learning, listening, chatting, gardening, walking, house hunting, sunbathing, knitting, writing, spending, shopping, cleaning, thinking, discovering, deciding, sleeping.<\/p>\n

Sunny days, lazy days<\/p>\n

Sometimes feeling down days<\/p>\n

Reading and jigsaws days<\/p>\n

Cheering Captain Tom days<\/p>\n

Counting blessings days!<\/p>\n

Missing: kids, grandchildren, friends, golf<\/p>\n

Love: reading, jigsaws, long phone conversations, long emails, cards, re-vamping garden furniture, proper meal planning and managing zero waste, reminiscing, Grey\u2019s Anatomy….again! Di Nash<\/p>\n
