Phrase of the Month\u2014Soroptimism is volunteering with friends.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In our meetings this month, we have paid our respects to our late majesty Queen Elizabeth the second.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We thank you for your Inspiration and duty over 70 years.<\/p>\n

Cindy, who is a long standing member of our club, has for years has held lunches to raise funds for The Three Roses Home in Clent.\u00a0 The Three Roses looks after people who are severely mentally disabled, and are mainly women.<\/p>\n

She holds these lunches at Lord Morton\u2019s Tea Rooms near Kidderminster. The lunches average \u00a3400 profit each event and she recently held a special one for a family coming from the troubles in Ukraine, which made a profit of \u00a3600.<\/p>\n

Our warmest thanks to both Cindy and Lee Morton for their generosity and invaluable support.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Our Soroptimist club was invited by a previous speaker Det Inspector Elizabeth Warner to take part in bulb planting at Police HQ Hindlip near Worcester.\u00a0 DI Warner oversees WOW, which stands for Women of West Mercia. President Hilary, Cindy and Sue C took part, alongside Women of West Mercia police officers and fire and rescue women who are based at Hindlip. It also included\u00a0 businesswomen in Worcestershire. The idea was to plant crocus bulbs around a tree which was planted in the drive to mark the Queen’s Jubilee in the summer. Hopefully, they will flower for March 8th <\/sup>– International Women\u2019s Day. There were 20 people present altogether and they planted 2,300 bulbs in just under an hour. The voice of Soroptimism was heard and discussed and thankfully the weather was kind.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Our Sewing Sisters have been really busy making toilet bags for women who need a helping hand.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Our contact in Uganda is now returning to the hospital and orphanage in Hoima to train the local midwives. She works with UNICEF to eliminate mother and baby deaths largely due to FGM. She will be taking birthing sheets- dresses- shorts -hats and vests which have been made by the Sewing Sisters, and others, during the pandemic. With airlines allowing her free cargo for most of these items, they will go straight to the point of need. The sewing sisters will now be making more of these items in the future.<\/p>\n
