{"id":5320,"date":"2026-02-19T11:44:54","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T10:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kings-lynn\/?p=5320"},"modified":"2026-02-19T11:46:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T10:46:25","slug":"author-antonia-hayes-gave-an-inspiring-and-entertaining-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kings-lynn\/2026\/02\/19\/author-antonia-hayes-gave-an-inspiring-and-entertaining-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Author Antonia Hayes gave an \u201cinspiring and entertaining\u201d talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Club members were pleased to welcome local author Antonia Hayes to their meeting on 2<sup>nd<\/sup> February.<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kings-lynn\/files\/2026\/02\/Member-Julie-Williams-with-author-Antonia-Hayes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5321\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/kings-lynn\/files\/2026\/02\/Member-Julie-Williams-with-author-Antonia-Hayes-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Antonia explained her lifelong love of books which led her to working in a bookshop and then a career in publishing. She had always kept a diary and after taking a short writing course produced her first book \u2018Relativity\u2019. The manuscript was sought after, attracting 6 bidders at auction. Since then, she has published a book of essays and has a new book in the pipeline (from which the members were treated to an extract).<\/p>\n<p>Antonia has had a varied life, being born in Australia and living in Sidney, Paris, California and London before moving to King\u2019s Lynn with her husband and children. King\u2019s Lynn was chosen because for Antonia the big skies made it \u2018feel like home\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Antonia with her husband and a small group set up the Margery Kempe Trust which aims to promote life writing and storytelling in King\u2019s Lynn, including running weekly creative writing sessions at the library. The group also work with the Forward Day Centre and have plans for outreach work in the surrounding villages.<\/p>\n<p>Club members then tried their hand at writing \u2013 all producing a short piece on the origin of their name \u2013 and all had a different story to tell.
