{"id":4473,"date":"2020-03-25T21:22:51","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T20:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/?page_id=4473"},"modified":"2020-06-13T14:33:28","modified_gmt":"2020-06-13T13:33:28","slug":"environment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/our-work\/environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Planet &amp; Environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Planet &amp; Environment group is a relatively new service group within S I Lichfield &amp; District and it\u2019s early days yet, however quite a lot has been achieved in a short space of time.<\/p>\n<p>The Planet group wants to involve as many members as possible in its activities, given that being outside in nature is so good for our mental and physical health.<\/p>\n<p>So far it has focussed on these areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding our <a href=\"http:\/\/footprintcalculator.org\">personal carbon footprints<\/a> and what they are telling us<\/li>\n<li>Reducing the quantity of single-use plastics we consume as a group<\/li>\n<li>Reducing our consumption overall<\/li>\n<li>Upcycling, Reusing and Recycling items such as textiles, and snacks &amp; toiletry packaging waste<\/li>\n<li>Improving our local environment for people, bees and other pollinators<\/li>\n<li>Planting trees and cleaning up litter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Group has carried out \u201ccivic gardening\u201d activities at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/2020\/05\/04\/what-can-we-do-to-help-our-pollinating-insects\/\">Chapters Garden<\/a> at Lichfield Cathedral and in a council-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/2020\/05\/04\/what-can-we-do-to-help-our-pollinating-insects\/\">planting area near Lichfield City Station<\/a>. With a lot of hard work they have transformed several overgrown, unloved areas into bright, green spaces attractive to humans, animals and insects alike. S I Lichfield &amp; District has also commissioned and delivered several <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/2019\/10\/20\/planters-for-pathway-project\/\">large, well stocked planters<\/a> to the Pathway Project which will be maintained by the charity\u2019s service users going forward.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be undertaking a series of Litter Picks across our district starting at Brereton in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breretonmillion.co.uk\">Brereton Million<\/a>, and later in 2020 we&#8217;ll be working to plant trees to celebrate the <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/soroptimistcentenary2021\/a-brilliant\/planting-trees-for-a-brilliant-future\">SIGBI Centenary in 2021.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several other similar projects are in the pipeline, many of which will involve partnership working.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/contact-us\/\">If you&#8217;ve got a project we could help with, or if you&#8217;d like to know more, why not get in touch?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Planet &amp;
