It takes place on the 21st October each year.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"355.26399999999995\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"355.26399999999995\">The main purpose of Conflict Resolution Day is to increase awareness of the various peaceful, non-violent methods of conflict resolution available.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"355.26399999999995\"><\/div>\n<h4 data-canvas-width=\"114.57599999999998\">What are these non-violent methods?<\/h4>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"74.608\"><\/div>\n<h4 data-canvas-width=\"74.608\">Mediation<\/h4>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"83.48799999999997\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"83.48799999999997\">Mediation is a structured, interactive process where an impartial third party assists disputing parties in resolving conflict through the use of specialised communication and negotiation techniques.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"581.8240000000004\">All participants in mediation are encouraged to actively participate in the process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text-wrapper user-select-text\">\n<ul>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"617.9040000000008\">is a &#8220;party-centered&#8221; process in that it is focused primarily upon the needs, rights, and interests of the parties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"606.6240000000006\">The mediator uses a wide variety of techniques to guide the process in a constructive direction and to help the parties find their optimal solution. A mediator is facilitative in that she\/he manages the interaction between parties and facilitates open communication.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"508.9600000000004\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"508.9600000000004\">When it is used in law, is a form of alternative dispute resolution solution resolving disputes between two or more parties where the mediator assists the parties to negotiate a settlement.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"629.2000000000005\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"629.2000000000005\">Mediation has a structure, timetable, and dynamics that &#8220;ordinary&#8221; negotiation lacks. The process is private and confidential, possibly enforced by law. Mediation is becoming a more peaceful and internationally accepted solution to end a conflict. Mediation can be used to resolve disputes of any size.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"81.67999999999999\"><\/div>\n<h4 data-canvas-width=\"81.67999999999999\">Arbitration<\/h4>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"81.67999999999999\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"589.2160000000003\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/files\/2021\/10\/disagreement.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5864 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/files\/2021\/10\/disagreement-300x200.png\" alt=\"Conflict Resolution Day\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/files\/2021\/10\/disagreement-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/files\/2021\/10\/disagreement.png 509w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In the UK this is most often used by the employment service ACAS where there&#8217;s a disagreement (&#8216;dispute&#8217;) between an employer and an employee or a group of employees, when a third party can make a decision on the dispute to settle it.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"605.2000000000006\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"605.2000000000006\">It&#8217;s better if both sides of the dispute, or their representatives, can resolve the dispute between themselves first. Both sides should try and work something out together or get help from a conciliator. When this doesn\u2019t work arbitration can help resolve the dispute.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"174.64\"><\/div>\n<h4 data-canvas-width=\"174.64\">United Nations Women<\/h4>\n<p data-canvas-width=\"174.64\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\">UNW<\/a> believes that women\u2019s participation in mediation is essential for achieving lasting, positive peace. Participation in a mediation process can help ensure that more and diverse members of the community become engaged in peace-making. This, in turn, can build the credibility of the process and increase local ownership of the process and its results.<\/p>\n<h4 data-canvas-width=\"159.66399999999996\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/lichfield\/files\/2021\/10\/conflict-resolution.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5863 alignleft\" greater and more effective participation of women at all levels of conflict resolution to ensure that outcomes are gender-responsive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text-wrapper user-select-text\">\n<ul>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"631.4720000000005\">working closely with civil society organisations, Member States, and other UN agencies, among others, to increase women\u2019s meaningful participation in peace processes through gathering knowledge and documenting good practices; strengthening women\u2019s civil society organizations to be effective advocates for gender and women\u2019s rights issues in peace processes; and supporting the development of regional networks of women leaders and women mediators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div
