{"id":338,"date":"2012-07-04T20:36:30","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T19:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/llandudno-and-district\/?p=338"},"modified":"2013-04-28T21:33:05","modified_gmt":"2013-04-28T20:33:05","slug":"june-meetings-and-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/llandudno-and-district\/2012\/07\/04\/june-meetings-and-events\/","title":{"rendered":"June meetings and events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Business meeting on <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">June 7th<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At the business meeting held on 7th June, members were given a brief talk about the forthcoming trip to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Llangollen Canal<\/strong><\/span> by tour guide and SI Rhyl Soroptimist, Lynne Bellis.<\/p>\n<p>President Mary inducted a new member, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Sue Cobley<\/strong><\/span>, who was introduced by Joanne Narey.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>beach clean<\/strong><\/span> was enjoyable and productive- ten bin bags full of rubbish and debris were collected.<\/p>\n<p>Several members including President Mary went on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Regional Jubilee River Trip<\/strong><\/span> on the River Dee and had a good time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The club was pleased to know that St George\u2019s School in Llandudno are going to participate with them in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Soroptimist Bee Project<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Members were asked to consider collecting items for backpacks for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Mary\u2019s Meals<\/strong><\/span>&#8211; helping children in the third world, silver coins towards the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Soroptimist 3E Project<\/strong><\/span> and food items for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Conwy Food Share<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Speaker\u00a0 meeting on June 21<sup>st<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The speaker\u00a0was Fiona Evans from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>The British Red Cross<\/strong><\/span> and is the Team Leader in North West Wales for Gofal Befriending Project. Fiona gave us an interesting talk about the history of The Red Cross and about the work they do in the community today including Gofal, Home from Hospital, Therapeutic Massage and Youth Services. She also informed us that The British Red Cross is renowned for assisting in crises both at home and abroad, where their speciality is sanitation.<\/p>\n<p>The club\u2019s next event is an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>afternoon tea<\/strong><\/span> at a member\u2019s home and there are plans for a trip to see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Starlight Express<\/strong><\/span> at Venue Cymru.
