Remembrance Sunday<\/strong>– Club members would normally attend a service at Holy Trinity Church in Llandudno followed by a walk to the Cenotaph on the promenade to lay a wreath. As this was not possible, we organised a virtual coffee morning with a one minute silence to remember those who died. Our clever ladies who crochet usually make poppies which are sold to the public and the funds are donated to the Women’s section of the Royal British Legion. This year, members gave a donation towards this charity.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

16 days of Activism against gender based violence from 25th November<\/strong>– One of our members, Celia, is involved with the ‘Ask me’ project ran by our\u00a0 local Women’s refuge. She was asked to share a ‘Caring Calendar’ produced by Welsh Women’s Aid for the 16 days of Activism. These messages were posted onto our Facebook page each day.<\/p>\n

Virtual cake and craft sale-\u00a0<\/strong>Members baked cakes, Christmas puddings and minced pies which had been ordered by other members and their friends. Some members sold items which they had knitted or crocheted. Proceeds from the successful effort went to charity.<\/p>\n

Speaker meeting, Gerrie Bailey from Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline-\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Members were joined by Regional President Louise and we wore orange and held up hands to support stopping domestic violence during the 16 days of action. Our speaker was Gerrie Bailey from Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, a charity supported by the club. They usually arrange for children from Belarus to visit North Wales but this was cancelled last summer due to the pandemic. Gerrie told us how they have been helping families in the area instead by sending food parcels and helping specific needy cases. These included a providing a young diabetic boy with insulin because it is not provided by the government. We also saw photos of a young lady called Svetlana who the club helped in setting up home as she was pregnant and destitute. She now has a home and has a baby boy.<\/p>\n

Raffle to help two good causes-\u00a0<\/strong>Following on from Gerrie’s talk, members bought raffle tickets in aid of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. It was agreed that any prizes received would be donated to the local Women’s Refuge. We were lucky to win Christmas hampers and other items which Pat took to the Refuge office and they were delighted with the gifts. Below- Pat presenting the gifts.<\/p>\n

Christmas virtual get-together and quiz- <\/strong>A fun quiz was organised by Pat where members gave a donation towards the International President’s Appeal for entering. We wore our Christmas outfits and had Christmas refreshments.<\/p>\n
