International clubs throughout East Anglia and East London have marked the 40<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of their region\u2019s existence at a celebration lunch at Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds. SI London Anglia has ten clubs stretching from Kings Lynn to Southend on Sea and reaching into north and east London boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>President Elect of Soroptimist International, Ann Garvie spoke of her determination to forge ahead with projects empowering women and girls to take their place as leaders in their communities and to further strengthen SI\u2019s role with the United Nations. She also thanked London Anglia for supporting her nomination for the top job within the organisation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/london-anglia\/files\/2012\/06\/Ickworth-1-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-587\" src=\"\/london-anglia\/files\/2012\/06\/Ickworth-1-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/london-anglia\/files\/2012\/06\/Ickworth-1-web.jpg 721w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/london-anglia\/files\/2012\/06\/Ickworth-1-web-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/a>Earlier, the Federation\u2019s Programme Director, Sue Biggs reinforced the key objectives of enabling, educating and empowering women in whatever campaigns or service activity is undertaken by clubs. \u00a0She pointed to the region\u2019s current project financing the two-year training of a nurse at an AIDS centre, Hillcrest, in South Africa, as an excellent example.<\/p>\n<p>A newsreel illustrating key events over the past 40 years was played during the lunch which was finished by the serving of a rich fruit cake made by the Regional President, Heather Knott.
