Empowering Girls in Nepal – Federation Project 2019-2022

In Nepal, reported cases of rape have quadrupled in the past ten years. Girls’ lives are being destroyed as they face not only the violence and long-term mental trauma but also the stigma associated with rape. UK registered charity ChoraChori (the Nepali word for ‘children’) is leading the fight back as it supports victims and their families and brings rapists to justice.

This is a three-year collaboration between ChoraChori and Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland. The project supports rape survivors, trafficked and vulnerable girls as they rebuild their lives, empowering them through education and training into gainful employment and a future within society.

The Big Story Challenge

Because fundraising has been difficult during the COVID19 Lockdown, Philip Holmes from ChoraChori launched The Big Story Challenge – people have been encouraged to submit stories by the end of July – or sponsor someone else who has written one – more on the website:

Empowering Girls in Nepal: update from Pauline Panter, Regional Ambassador

The latest news from Nepal is that activities are at a temporary standstill as the country is in shutdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Once the shutdown is lifted the girls will need even more support, so our fund raising remains a high priority. Money raised via The Big Story will be highly appreciated; don’t forget the deadline for submission has been extended to the end of July. So ladies, time to put creative pen to paper or you could make a donation or sponsor a submitting member, if you do this online the amount  will be match funded until the amount committed is exhausted, remember to add Soroptimist in the comments box. Go to and follow the instructions. Do you have a member who has written her story, if  not you might like to sponsor Ann-Marie Parker of SI Hertford and District; her story is included here to inspire you!
