expanded Paediatric Intensive Care unit at St. Mary&#8217;s Hospital, Paddington.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/17-Jen-abseil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1373\" src=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/17-Jen-abseil.jpg\" alt=\"17-Jen abseil\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><a href=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/18-Jen-abseil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1374\" src=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/18-Jen-abseil.jpg\" alt=\"18-Jen abseil\" width=\"79\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><em>&#8220;On 2<a href=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/19-Jen-abseil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1375\" src=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/19-Jen-abseil.jpg\" alt=\"19-Jen abseil\" width=\"96\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a>6<sup>th<\/sup> April at 11am I well and truly faced my fears and completed my abseil down the 150 foot, 10 storey Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Building at St Mary&#8217;s Hospital, Paddington.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><em>After being harnessed up, we were escorted up the staircase to the 10<sup>th<\/sup> floor and shown through some offices onto the balcony with stunning views across London, excited to spot the London Eye in the distance.\u00a0 After a safety briefing, it was time for me to climb onto the scaffolding platform and start my descent.\u00a0 I must say stepping backwards off that platform was the scariest thing I have ever done, made worse by my determination not to look down.\u00a0 After some words of encouragement and a moment to hide my fear and smile\u00a0for the camera, I set off.\u00a0 It took me a minute or two to find \u00a0my rhythm as I could only just touch the wall with my feet. \u00a0Just as I let the adrenaline kick in the wall disappeared to make way for a window&#8230;.after a little spin around I reconnect with the wall and down I went&#8230;.reports from my onlookers afterwards was that I flew down really <a href=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/20-Jen-abseil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1376\" src=\"\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/20-Jen-abseil-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"20-Jen abseil\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/20-Jen-abseil-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/london-chilterns\/files\/2017\/06\/20-Jen-abseil.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>quickly&#8230;.I wasn\u2019t stopping to write postcards on the way down!<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><em>Back on terra firma, I felt an immense sense of accomplishment and was delighted to have raised \u00a3260 for the More Smiles Appeal, including an incredibly generous donation from SI Aylesbury and District.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><em>It certainly felt like I was taking my theme of being ACTIVE (Aspirational, Collaborative, Tenacious, Inspirational, Vocal and Empowering for Women and Girls globally) to the extreme \u2013 but all worth it in the end.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Well done Jen!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is SI London Chilterns Regional President Jen Simpson&#8217;s report of her amazing abseil antics&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":1373,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[44,17,18,14,8,9,43,19,11,12],"class_list":["post-1372","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-abseil","tag-jen-simpson","tag-more-smiles","tag-region","tag-soroptimist","tag-soroptimist-international","tag-st-marys-hospital","tag-thames-valley","tag-womens-group","tag-womens-organisation"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Regional President Jen Abseils for More Smiles Charity | News | Blog | Events | SI London Chilterns<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI London Chilterns : Blog &amp;
