New Venue and a New Childrens Hospice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After many years of having the Annual Lunch in Dorney this year <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/\">SI Slough Windsor and Maidenhead<\/a> <\/strong>moved to the beautiful setting of the Berystede Hotel in South Ascot.\u00a0 Despite the rather unseasonal weather members were able to admire the attractive gardens and enjoy a delightful three course meal with their guests including London Chilterns Regional President Margaret Badley and the Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough of Windsor &amp; Maidenhead.<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Lunch.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-913 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Lunch-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following traditional toasts to Soroptimist International and Our Guests, Fiona Devine gave a talk about the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alexanderdevine.org\/\">Alexander Devine Children\u2019s Hospice<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Fiona\u2019s son Alexander died a few years ago having needed treatment for cancer and she then discovered that there was no Children\u2019s hospice in the area of Berkshire.\u00a0 Having ascertained that there was a significant need for a Hospice devoted to the needs of children (up to the age of 19) she took on the remarkably daunting task of setting one up.\u00a0 Amazingly the Hospice now exists!\u00a0 It has six beds and facilities for families to stay overnight and is currently undergoing the appropriate checks regarding safety standards etc.\u00a0 The anticipation is that the unit will finally open to the public in June of this year.\u00a0 Fiona has achieved this remarkable goal at the same time as bringing up two other children which many might consider quite challenging enough.\u00a0 The fundraising has been amazing and many groups have been set up\u00a0to continue to raise the funds which will be needed to fund the Hospice\u2019s running costs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Sopeaker.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-915 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Sopeaker-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sally\u00a0Radford who chaired the lunch thanked Fiona for her inspirational talk and presented a cheque for \u00a3700 together with flowers.<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Fiona.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-916 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/slough-windsor-and-maidenhead\/files\/2018\/04\/Photo-08-04-2018-Fiona-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fiona then helped to draw the raffle which had a first prize of\u00a0<em>Tea for Four<\/em>\u00a0at the Berystede Hotel and was won by Estlyn Davies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After many years of having the Annual Lunch in Dorney this year SI Slough Windsor&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":1659,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[16,116,13,14,15,81,8,9,10,11,12],"class_list":["post-1656","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-active","tag-alexander-devine-childrens-hospice","tag-london-chilterns","tag-region","tag-silc","tag-slough-windsor-and-maidenhead","tag-soroptimist","tag-soroptimist-international","tag-women","tag-womens-group","tag-womens-organisation"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>SI Slough Windsor and Maidenhead Annual Lunch - New Venue and a New Childrens Hospice | News | Blog | Events | SI London Chilterns<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI London Chilterns : Blog &amp;
