President’s Statement

It is with great pleasure, honour and humility that I accept the privilege and the responsibility of the President of the Soroptimist International of Greater London for the period of 2018 – 2019.

Before I go any further, I would I to take this opportunity to say a big thank you and congratulations to our out-going SIGL President, Yemisi Opaneye, for all her great work and immense contribution in keeping the club going. Yemisi has been a devoted and hardworking President of whom, we all appreciate and value so much.

Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls with nearly 80,000 Members in 124 countries. Soroptimist International works at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls.

I have been with the club for just over 5 years. I was invited to become a member by an extremely dedicated member, Monica Clarke, my Sister-in-Law, who is sadly no longer with us. I am also a committed member for The Soroptimist (London) Housing Association.

I am extremely passionate about the club and the work it does for women and girls worldwide. The theme for this year is commitment. Commitment is defined as “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause”. The desire for this year is for us to be dedicated and focused in moving the club forward; not looking back.

I look forward to working with all my devoted sisters in addressing our challenges with recruitment; growing and keeping our club; and having a very sound and dynamic programme action.

The charity that I have chosen to support for the year is Young Minds Charity; the UK’s leading charity fighting for young people’s mental health.
