\"Backpacks<\/a>In October members made up 35 children\u2019s backpacks for the charity Mary\u2019s Meals.\u00a0Each backpack\u00a0contained school materials (notebook, pencil case, pens, pencils, ruler etc.) clothing items (t-shirt, shorts or skirt and flip-flops) a tennis ball and washing items (towel, soap, toothbrush and\u00a0toothpaste).<\/p>\n

\"Backpacks<\/p>\n

Each backpack was\u00a0labelled to show the intended age and gender of the recipient.\u00a0Members had been collecting the\u00a0backpacks and contents for many months and, with many willing\u00a0helpers, they were all filled within 2 hours. There were also two boxes of extra items that the charity\u00a0will take and use to \u2018top up\u2019 other donated backpacks.<\/p>\n

\"Backpacks<\/p>\n

The charity will deliver the backpacks to school children at one of their feeding stations at a school\u00a0in a developing country. Such schools are often very remote with no shops nearby, and families are\u00a0often too poor to buy school materials even if there were a shop.<\/p>\n

When Tim Olsen came to talk to us about Mary\u2019s Meals recently, he told us of his field visits to\u00a0feeding stations and of the joy and delight he saw when children were given a backpack.<\/p>\n
