{"id":5573,"date":"2024-06-11T10:28:54","date_gmt":"2024-06-11T09:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/manchester\/?p=5573"},"modified":"2024-06-18T16:40:10","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T15:40:10","slug":"chameleon-buddies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/manchester\/2024\/06\/11\/chameleon-buddies\/","title":{"rendered":"Chameleon Buddies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The speaker at our June meeting was Gill Castle from <a href=\"http:\/\/chameleonbuddies.org.uk\">Chameleon Buddies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0280708891MsoNormal\">When Gill, a former police officer,\u00a0 gave birth to her son in October 2011, her joy was accompanied with life-changing injuries due to an undiagnosed tear &#8211; two weeks later she left hospital with a stoma.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0280708891MsoNormal\">Following this, Gill became a committed and established campaigner dedicated to raising awareness and funds for women affected by childbirth injury both in the UK and in Kenya. During\u00a0 the winter of 2020-21 she swam in open water wearing only a bikini. Last year she completed a challenge to swim the English Channel, a feat which she achieved in 14 hours &#8211; &#8216;The Stoma Swimmer&#8217; is available on BBC iPlayer.
