Over the past 50 years Soroptimist International Manchester has celebrated significant anniversaries by raising funds for a variety of projects.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Club in 1976 an annual prize was established at the Royal Northern College of Music to be awarded each year to the outstanding student of composition or conducting. The Diamond Jubilee project in 1986 was for the NSPCC Special Families unit in Fallowfield.<\/p>\n

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Club in 1996, \u00a37,000 was raised to furnish and equip a multi-sensory room for children at a local assessment centre. The Club’s 80th anniversary was marked by donating \u00a38,000 to St Mary’s Sexual Assault referral centre for a new paediatric room.<\/p>\n

Act4Africa, a charity the club still supports, was the recipient of \u00a39,000 raised for the 90th anniversary in 2016.<\/p>\n

For the centenary in 2026 a committee met regularly to plan celebrations and fund raising events, and to raise awareness of the work we do. The aim was to raise \u00a310,000 for our charities – thanks to the generosity and hard work of members, family and friends we raised over \u00a312,000 within six months.<\/p>\n

We were delighted to be able to make centenary grants to six local charities – Contact Hostel, The River Manchester, Early Essentials, Manchester Women’s Aid, WomenMatta and Manchester Action on Street Health – all of which we have been involved with for some time. Please see our Local Projects<\/a> page for information on how we help these organisations.<\/p>\n

Our grants were used as follows –<\/p>\n

Contact Hostel – <\/strong>for their Good Memories Fund which provides new experiences for homeless teenage girls.<\/p>\n

The River Manchester – <\/strong>for their 16 Days of Activism event in December,<\/p>\n

Early Essentials – <\/strong>to buy 50 Moses baskets for new born babies of vulnerable mothers<\/p>\n

Manchester Women’s Aid – <\/strong>to fund an art project for their service users.<\/p>\n

WomenMatta – <\/strong>to provide 100 Christmas gift bags for their service users.<\/p>\n

Manchester Action on Street Health – <\/strong>for a hardship fund to provide individual items for their service users at their personal point of need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
