Our Community Project, started a few years ago, and was the idea of 2 members, Pam and Rita.
Both are avid readers, and had between them, quite a few books which were read, but still too good to throw away! So started the ‘Book Stall’, which is now a bit of a misnomer, because we sell anything that generous members bring to us, for example; jam, marmalade, lemon curd, (all homemade),crafts such as aprons, pegbags ,boot bags etc. fresh home grown produce in season, jigsaws, and even once a pair of shoes!
We charge nominal sums for the items, and the funds are given to our treasurer, for the purpose of supporting our local community projects, such as the Refuge, and Framework centre’s.
These are people without even the most basic necessities, such as soap, shampoo, towels, toothcare products, sanitary care, for them and their children,(Refuge clients). When the time comes for these clients to be re-housed, then we are also able to supply, cleaning items; mops, brushes, buckets, dusters, pots and pans, towels, tea towels, cleaning fluids, soap etc.
So, a tiny idea has grown and flourished, giving comfort and support to so many, who have experienced some of the privations that is the lot of the homeless, and abused. At present we support:
