{"id":4776,"date":"2020-05-28T09:16:52","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T08:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/?p=4776"},"modified":"2020-05-28T09:23:38","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T08:23:38","slug":"what-support-did-soroptimists-give-to-local-womens-refuge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/2020\/05\/28\/what-support-did-soroptimists-give-to-local-womens-refuge\/","title":{"rendered":"What Support Did Soroptimists Give To Local Women&#8217;s Refuge?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As reports appeared in the media about the alarming increase in domestic abuse incidents during lockdown, Angela Howe contacted our local provider, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myclarionhousing.com\">Clarion Housing<\/a> to ask if there was anything Soroptimists could do to help.\u00a0 <!--more-->Lisa Fuller Project Leader at Clarion provided a list of the essential items they would be grateful for as their beds were all currently full, items such as:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Food supplies such as cereal, long life milk, coffee, teabags, spaghetti, beans, biscuits.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Single bedding including mattress protectors<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0New basic mobile phones<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Radio<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Baby chair\/bouncer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The call went out to all our Soroptimist members asking if they could help with any of these items or donate money towards purchasing them.\u00a0 There was a positive response that included a generous financial donation.\u00a0 Sue Daykin coordinated the collection of the donated items and purchased the new bedding, mobile phones, radio, and some food items. Sue and one of our newer club members Sharon Forghani delivered the goods to the Women\u2019s refuge, ensuring all social distancing precautions were taken.<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2020\/05\/Donated-items-for-Refuge-May-2020.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4777 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2020\/05\/Donated-items-for-Refuge-May-2020-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"Essential items for Women's Refuge May 2020\" width=\"780\" height=\"585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2020\/05\/Donated-items-for-Refuge-May-2020-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2020\/05\/Donated-items-for-Refuge-May-2020-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2020\/05\/Donated-items-for-Refuge-May-2020.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We received a lovely letter from Lisa saying, \u2018<em>I am writing to say a massive thank you to you for your kind donation of gifts.
