The centenary of the organisation seemed a fitting opportunity to recognise and celebrate the professional and personal commitments made by these outstanding members through the years.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mary Buchanan had transferred over to SI Medway and Maidstone in April 2020 from SI Maidstone as an Honorary member to our club.\u00a0 A small task group with members from both Medway and Maidstone clubs set about putting together a <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/soroptimistcentenary2021\/files\/13.-Dr-Mary-Buchanan-1-1-1.pdf\">nomination for Mary,<\/a> who we felt met the criteria\u00a0 for #WhoIsShe. \u00a0The challenge for us was, we had less than two weeks in which to do this, to meet the deadline \u2026 but we did it!<\/p>\n<p>We were pleased to be told that the nomination for Mary had been successful. <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-Social-Media-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5359 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-Social-Media-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-Social-Media-3.jpg 896w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-Social-Media-3-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/><\/a>We were obviously biased in feeling it was well deserved for what Mary had achieved professionally as a General Practitioner and her interest in Well Women and Breast Cancer Care and personally for her contribution as a Soroptimist locally, nationally, and internationally to benefit women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, we will not be able to celebrate with Mary in style with a party due to lockdown, but in the meantime, the club has sent flowers to Mary in Soroptimist colours to congratulate her.<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-with-flowers-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5353 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-with-flowers-3-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-with-flowers-3.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-with-flowers-3-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2021\/03\/Mary-with-flowers-3-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mary\u2019s response has been, \u2018<em>A big thank you to everyone, family, Soroptimist family, both in Maidstone, SIGBI and indeed in the other Federations, for supporting and nurturing me on my long Soroptimist Journey &#8211; again I would not have been able to accomplish it without you..<\/em>\u2019<\/p>\n<p>from Mary, Proud Honorary Member of SI Medway and Maidstone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the month of April, Dr Mary Buchanan is being showcased with 11 other Soroptimists,&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":730,"featured_media":5353,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[171,175,173,172,42,174],"class_list":["post-5351","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-club-news","tag-whoisshe","tag-breast-cancer-care","tag-general-practitioner","tag-sigbi-centenary","tag-soroptimists","tag-well-women"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Why is Dr Mary Buchanan &#039;One Soroptimist in a Hundred&#039;? | News | Blog | Events | SI Medway and Maidstone<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI Medway and Maidstone : Blog &amp; News : Why is Dr Mary Buchanan &#039;One Soroptimist in a Hundred&#039;? : Keep up to date with the latest news, articles and events from the Soroptimists of SI Medway and Maidstone .
