It was good to see some new faces and to hear of the work clubs are doing on similar projects.<\/p>\n<p>Cassandra shared photos of their Orange the World Day activities: <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/Collage-OtW-2024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6863 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/Collage-OtW-2024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/Collage-OtW-2024.jpg 320w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/Collage-OtW-2024-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/Collage-OtW-2024-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>with the mayor of Rijswijk (lady in black),<\/li>\n<li>the library,<\/li>\n<li>at the market and the beginning:<\/li>\n<li>collecting and painting more than 80 shoes to give them a primer and a second layer of orange paint.\u00a0 A lot of fun painting them together with the other ladies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/OtW-painting-shoes-SI-Voorburg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6864\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/OtW-painting-shoes-SI-Voorburg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/OtW-painting-shoes-SI-Voorburg.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/medway-maidstone\/files\/2025\/02\/OtW-painting-shoes-SI-Voorburg-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The mayor was interested because in the last one and a half years, 3 women in Rijswijk were killed by their (ex)husband or (ex)partner. Cassandra had read a book of Daniel Verlaan, a Dutch journalist on (cyber)crime called &#8216;I know your password&#8217;. In this book he also talks about violence against women via socials and mobile phones.\u00a0 It opens one\u2019s eyes!<\/p>\n<p>Carol spoke about a presentation and leaflet produced by Annette Maudsley (Safeguarding) on Technology Facilitated Domestic Abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Julia agreed to forward a copy of the regional newsletter that Jane is temporarily producing. It has articles about the projects Medway and Maidstone are involved with, such as Shoebox Appeal, Fundraising for SI Foundation and Christmas Hampers to Women\u2019s Refuges.<\/p>\n<p>Marie Luise spoke about their 25th anniversary in 2026, when Medway and Maidstone will also be celebrating their 80th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Christine from SI Chaguanas spoke about the successful recruitment of 7 new members. Nalini told us about a book they had written called \u2018Renew The Future\u2019 for primary age children to learn about renewable energy. It aims to spark curiosity and inspire young readers to explore how they can defend and renew the planet.<\/p>\n<p>It was an excellent and worthwhile meeting with our friendship clubs. Christine said, \u2018It is always so rewarding getting together with sister soroptimist from different countries and learning what they are doing and how they are doing it.
