More than 1200 members of a world-wide women’s organisation, Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) came together in Cardiff from 26th to 28th October bringing together Soroptimists from around the globe to celebrate our achievements and listen to world class speakers inspiring us to do more.
During the final evening of conference we said goodbye to the outgoing Federation President 2016-17 Ann Hodgson who wanted to “thank members of the Federation Management Board, staff, and all other post holders as well as you for your commitment to improving the lives of women and girls over the past year.”
Ann said “We must be resilient and work to ensure the continued success of Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland by growing our Federation and making a difference through our work locally, nationally and internationally and in our status at the United Nations.
With this success, we can help more women and girls achieve their fullest potential and ensure women have а equal place in every facet of life and play а active part in shaping the world that we want to see.”
New president Susan Biggs received her chain of office and set out her hopes for her year as our President.
“The theme for the year of the Federation Presidency which will culminate in Liverpool in October 2018 is “Empower today, Enable tomorrow.”
As good Soroptimists we instantly recognise the dynamic verbs of empower and enable; two of the key words for Programme Action, the life blood of our organisation. We educate, empower and enable women and girls to reach their potential. We have been doing so as a Federation since 1932 and we intend to be doing so for many more years to come.”
