SI President’s Appeal Update – Year 2 starts 10 December 2018

Are you organising a fundraising event or activity to support the SI President’s Appeal ‘Women, Water and Leadership’ on or before the 10th of December?

Without donations there would be no projects and we would not be able to educate, empower and enable the women and girls who are in a dire need of our support. The project aims to raise £350,000 over its two year period. We are half way through and have already raised nearly half the targeted funds (£160,000 raised so far). SI President Mariet thanks all Members for their support of this project.

The three Women, Water & Leadership projects that already have started are the Mwihoko women in Kenya, WeWash in Bulgaria and Clean water for rural communities in Malaysia. The fourth project will be in Sulawesi, Indonesia where the devastating earthquake took place on 28th September.

The President’s Appeal offers an opportunity for Soroptimists to show others that we are indeed an International organisation that works together to be the best of women and to do the best for women.

Here are few ideas from Soroptimists around the world on what can be done to fundraise for the President‘s Appeal 2017-2019 Women, Water & Leadership.

From England:

Create an Advent calendar for each club member where each day from 1st of December until 24th of December a reminder on the importance of water and its usage is written, and a fixed amount paid when using water. Examples: “25p everytime you have a cup of coffee“; “50p If you wash the floors“; “25p For each time you had a shower this week“; “50p For using the dishwasher“. The amount collected this way Club members bring to their January meeting where the Treasurer collects the money to be donated to Women, Water & Leadership.

Example of Advent Calendar

From USA:

An auction was being held during a festive dinner where items made by Soroptimists were being auctioned, such as a doll all dressed up and showing the Soroptimist logo, a quilt made by a member, etc.

From Europe:

For their December meeting Club members bring little Christmas gifts to give to one-another, but this year they will bring money instead to donate to Women, Water & Leadership.

One cannot do everything, but all can do something. Put your activities on Social Media, using #WWLSoroptimist.
