SIGBI celebrates centenary of women getting the vote in 1918

It’s exactly 100 years since the suffragettes achieved an act in Parliament giving women the vote for the first time.  It didn’t apply to all women – only those over 30 and “of property”, but it was a great achievement.  It was another 10 years before all women over 21 were allowed to vote.

The fight for women’s equality still goes on today, with violence against women and girls still far too prevalent, but we salute the suffragettes, without whom women would not have the opportunities that they have today.
