Soroptimist Day of Action – 21 July 2018

Saturday 21st July 2018 is the Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI) Day of Action.

This year many Clubs will be raising money for the Meru Women’s Garden Project, our three year partnership with child.org to educate, empower and enable women in Meru to become self-sufficient.

Whatever fundraising event you’re planning please send pictures to sally@sigbi.org for inclusion on the website and social media pages.

Meru Women’s Garden Project Update

On 7th April, 24 Soroptimists and one very brave Soroptimister set off on an African adventure for a five day study tour on the Meru Women’s Garden Project.

Soroptimists were delighted to see the progress made so far Patricia Gatherum said “We returned to our hotel invigorated and humbled in a way. We have so much in our lives and the Meru people are so happy with so little. We now know that our donations are being used well and in some small way Soroptimists are definitely educating, empowering and enabling these women and girls in Meru”.

Take a look at the photographs on Flickr.

Read about how much the training means to four women in Meru on the Meru Women website – they can now provide for their families and fund their children’s (and in one case their grandchildren’s) education.

Message from Programme Director Barbara Dixon

Having seen the Meru project first hand I can assure you that the Meru Garden project is improving the lives of women and families and our efforts are truly appreciated.

July 21st 2018 is the date for our “Day of Action” for Meru – what will you be doing to raise funds for this project?

We look forward to seeing your reports and photos – I may even give a prize to the best or most original event/photo.
