Soroptimist Club Website Guide

Why have a Website?

Why have a Website? …………….. because your “customers” expect you to have one.

Having a website is seen as important and necessary as having a phone number.

A website enables you to reach potential and current members, and outside organisations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Your website can educate, inform and generate new interest. A website makes it easy to be contacted. Media professionals check websites as validation for an organisation before they print a story – if you don’t have a website they may decide not to print. Outside organisations search the internet to find out more about us. Websites link easily with Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube etc. To get the most from Social Media networks simply include your website address to draw readers attention to additional information on your website. Websites are affordable and cost effective. Annually the cost of having a website may be less than the cost of a one-time print ad. The information on your site can save you time and money; for example, you can save time by reducing phone call inquiries such as “where and when do you meet” and save money by reducing printed promotional literature. Do other nearby Clubs have websites? – if they do then you need one too. People searching the internet for a Club to visit or join may not come to you if you don’t have a website.

Why have a SIGBI Hosted Website?

Any Region/National Association/Network or Club that wishes to can have a website (referred to below simply as Club Websites) that is hosted by SIGBI, and follows the same format as other Club Websites.  Although clubs can design their own website if they wish, there are certain advantages to having a SIGBI website, namely:

  • The Website is automatically listed in the “Our Clubs” section of the SIGBI website
  • The template is already set up so there is no wait time between deciding to have a website and being able to publish it to the World Wide Web community
  • No need to register and pay for a separate domain name
  • The template includes as default a link back to the SIGBI main site, in-built facility to include a Contact Us form and a search facility
  • Clubs can nominate a member to act as Website Administrator, who will then be able to make all updates themselves, without having to request updates via a third party, which will incur costs and possibly delays
  • Full support is available via Federation Office, and is only a phone call or an email away.  Responses will be made to any request the same day it is received, and issues will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
  • Bespoke User Guide is available on line
  • Club Websites present a uniformed design, which instantly identifies them as a Club within Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI)
  • New logos/straplines are created by SIGBI and automatically applied across Club Websites
  • New technology updates and improved features/facilities are automatically applied to all Club Websites
  • Search Engine Optimisation already exists within the SIGBI Website, and your website will quickly become top of the search results after it has been created
  • No hidden costs – the annual subscription is all you need to pay

If you wish to set up a Club Website that is hosted by SIGBI, then it costs £40 plus VAT (clubs outside the UK do not pay VAT) per year.  Simply send a cheque for this amount to Federation Office or telephone us with your credit card details, stating who your website administrator will be and giving her email address.  She will receive a username and password, and access to all the training materials, which will give her all the information she needs to create the Club Website.

If a Club decides to create their own website, independently of SIGBI, then a link can be created from the SIGBI Website, provided that the website conforms to the Guidelines and Protocols document.  The club website administrator should also complete the Agreement for linking non-SIGBI hosted websites.  We will look at the website and highlight any changes that need to be made before the link is made.  This service is free of charge.

Checklist for a Good Soroptimist Website:

  • Is the Home Page attractive? Would it make someone want to find out more?
  • Is the content up-to-date, interesting and informative to both members and non-members? Could it make someone want to find out about joining the Club
  • Is there a Contact facility so that someone can easily contact the Club to find out more?
