UN Status and UN Days

UN Status

In August 2013, SIGBI was given Category 2 (Special Consultative) Status with ECOSOC at the UN.  This status allows SIGBI to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies.  We will also be informed about the provisional agenda of the Economic and Social Council.

SI has Category 1 (General Consultative) Status with ECOSOC.

Please note: NGOs in Consultative Status are forbidden to use the UN logo on stationery, websites, business cards etc or to imply any kind of “partnership” with the UN, which is why the UN logo has not been included in the list of UN Days below.  Please do not use the UN or ECOSOC logos when mentioning SIGBI’s status in any published materials.

UN Days and Significant Dates

Many Soroptimists undertake projects to commemorate certain UN Days and other significant dates in the Soroptimist Calendar. These are listed below. As each of these dates approaches, further information will be given in a separate entry in the SIGBI Calendar, and there will be a news item.
