UN Days 2020 – Measuring our Impact
We have chosen four of the UN Days around which we will create a toolkit to be used by Clubs. Do get involved on social media to raise awareness and get our voices heard. Use our suggested messages, images and press releases.
The four days that have been chosen in 2020 are: International Women’s Day, World Environment Day, SIGBI Day of Action and 16 Days of Activism.
We will create a toolkit for you to use for each of these four days, and after the event we will circulate a survey asking for you to submit your social media stats. Instructions on how to do this will be included.
Do join in. Let us know how many people you reached, and let’s tally up the total reach for SIGBI for each special day.
16 Days of Activism 2020
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence take place between 25 November and 10 December each year. The theme for 2020 is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”
As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already existing pandemic of violence against women.
“Accompanying the crisis has been a spike in domestic violence reporting, at exactly the time that services, including rule of law, health and shelters, are being diverted to address the pandemic,” stated the UN Secretary-General’s report, “Shared Responsibility, Global Solidarity: Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19“.
A toolkit has been developed for Members, Clubs, Regions/National Associations/Networks to use, consisting of press releases, an image for every day of the 16 Days of Activism, and social media messages.
Why note make orange masks to wear during this time when you go to the shops. A pattern is included in the toolkit, to be made using orange material, and you can either leave your mask plain, or why not wear a different one each day and write messages on them related to the day in question.
Start the conversation!

International Volunteers Week 2020
This year, National Volunteers’ Week is running from Monday 1st June to Sunday 7th June.
Here is another opportunity to celebrate your volunteering work, sharing your stories on your websites and through social media channels. Whether you’re volunteering to support the NHS, other organisations or charities, or you are volunteering in your local community or supporting an international project, tell your story and use the logo and the hashtag #Soroptimistsvolunteer. If you tag us in on Facebook Soroptimist International GBI and on Twitter @SIGBI1 we will like, share and retweet too. And make sure you do the same for all the other posts you see from other Clubs, let’s let everyone know #Soroptimistsvolunteer. There are two versions of the logo below which you can use with your posts.
World Environment Day 2020
World Environment Day is on 5 June 2020. Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) have provided social media messages for Clubs/Regions/NAs/Networks and Members to use throughout this day. You can also use any of the pictures that are in our Flickr album.
