We are holding a series of 4 webinars dealing with different aspects of editing Club websites, and videos of these, plus bespoke video tutorials on specific editing skills are being put on YouTube. The links are below, with any additional information needed. The tutorials are listed first with their descriptions. The webinar videos are at the bottom of the page.

As video tutorials are produced they will be added to this page. If there is a topic that you need to learn but isn’t featured below, please let us know (sally@sigbi.org). It may be that we have a video on that topic planned but not yet produced, or we may need to add it to the list of tutorials required. Please be patient as it will take time to produce them all.

Making Changes to your Club Website Homepage

How to make your Club Homepage your own. Even though there is a default appearance for Club Websites, there are things you can do to personalise your Club Homepage.

It includes how to add your own Facebook feed to your website rather than the default SIGBI Facebook feed.

This video contains everything you need to know about images – the sizes needed for each use, such as featured images, headers, inside a page/post; how to upload and apply.

This video explains how to use links, upload PDFs and embedding videos into your website including Best Practice.

Password-Protected Pages and Editing your Club Menu

This video explains how create a members’ area on your website using password-protected pages, and how to edit your Club Menu.

Using Tables

This video explains how to insert and update tables on your posts/pages. Tables are useful for displaying items in columns such as your Diary of Events or Club Officers.

Creating a Video from PowerPoint Slides and embedding on your website

This video explains how to convert a PowerPoint Presentation into a video, upload it to YouTube and embed it in your website. You can include a video that is already embedded into your PowerPoint Presentation.

Social Media Best Practice

How to use Social Media to boost visitors to your website, and why it is important to have both a website and social media.

This video is one hour long. The last 10 minutes are concerned with putting your own Facebook Feed onto your Club pages rather than the default SIGBI Facebook Feed, and how to put “Follow us on . . .” social media icons (up to five can be added) onto your pages. It also shows you how to share a post on your social media platforms. For this reason the same video is shown in both the Best Practice and the Updating your Website sections of this page.

Not covered is putting your Twitter feed on your pages instead of Facebook. A short additional video on this will be produced shortly.

Best Practice Videos

These videos are on how to improve the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) of your website and how to write copy that will engage audiences. There is also best practice regarding Social Media.

An introduction to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and why it is so important to make sure your website has high visibility to search engines such as Google.

How to upload and optimise a Blog Post

How to ensure that your blog post or webpage contains the information that Google and other search engines will use to rank the post or page.

This video is 35 minutes long.

What should you be blogging about?

Why do you need to blog? How do you choose your subjects? How do you write for SEO?

Blogging Training Webinar – 14 June 2020

A webinar was held on 14 June 2020 for training on writing blogs for the SIGBI Website. The invited attendees will be writing blogs for the main SIGBI Website and have been allocated specific blogs to do. Club Communication Officers/Website Editors were not invited, but the recording of the webinar is below, as it contains a lot of useful information. it goes into more detail than the blogging videos above.

Useful Software

If there is a piece of software that may be useful to Club Website Editors to prepare material for uploading to the website, then any videos relating to use of that software will be put into this section.

Irfanview – Image batch-processing software

Editing a single image is straightforward, using Microsoft Office Picture Manager, but sometimes you may want to edit a lot of images to be the same size and the same name (with a number to differentiate), so that they can be used in a Carousel. This video explains how to download and use this freeware software.

Snipping Tool

A free piece of software with Windows which allows you to take a screenshot of your computer screen and annotate it. Useful for issuing instructions.

This video is 10 minutes long.

Windows Photos

A free piece of software with Windows 10 which allows you to make simple edits to your videos. It only allows you to trim the start and end of a video, and split a long video into two or more pieces.

This video is 10 minutes long.

Windows  Video Editor

A free piece of software with Windows 10 which allows you to edit videos, including joining two videos together, inserting a slide at the start and end and even inserting pictures in the middle of a video. You can also add background music or recording your own narrative.

This video is 23 minutes long.

Website Webinar Recordings

Where possible, you should use the video tutorials to learn how to update your website. However, those who attended the four website webinars may like to be reminded of the content of the webinars, so the recordings are below. They have been split into manageable chunks rather than have one hour recordings.

We regret that due to technical issues the recording made of the first webinar, on 23 April 2020 was not suitable for publication, so is not included below.
