[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Soroptimist International (SI) 22nd<\/sup> Convention held in Dublin, <\/strong>Ireland<\/strong> – 27th – 29th July 2023\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The theme – Challenge the Future<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

16 delegates from our <\/strong>Midland<\/strong> East Region (SIMER) out of an approximate total of 1,700 attended the convention. <\/strong>We\u00a0enjoyed a full-on programme in a purpose-built glass tower which resembles a Dyson vacuum cleaner<\/em>. It overlooks the River Liffey at Spencer Dock in Dublin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

S.I. President Maureen Maguire and IPP President Sharon Fisher welcomed the delegates. \u00a0Sue Perry was Convention Chair. The convention committee and local organising committee did a sterling job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every four years,\u00a0 Soroptimist International holds an International convention, the hosting rotates around our five federations. The next one in 2027 which will be 23rd<\/sup> convention, will be hosted by SI of the Americas (SIA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Soroptimist International of the <\/strong>Americas<\/strong> (SIA)<\/strong> \u2013 Live Your Dream, Dream it Be it. \u2013 Big Goal \u2013 to invest in the dreams of half a million women and girls through access to education by 2031.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soroptimist International of <\/strong>Europe<\/strong> (SIE)<\/strong> \u2013 Covid-19 Response-Safe House & The War Zone Initiative<\/span><\/p>\n

Soroptimist International of <\/strong>Great Britain<\/strong> and <\/strong>Ireland<\/strong> (SIGBI)<\/strong> \u2013 Planting Trees for a Brilliant Future & Toilet Twinning<\/span><\/p>\n

Soroptimist International <\/strong>South East Asia<\/strong> Pacific (SISEAP)<\/strong> \u2013 Malaysian Schools with Soroptimist Support & Disaster Responses<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 1 Wednesday<\/strong> from 13.30:17.00 \u2013 Registration and AGM<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 2 Thursday<\/strong>\u00a0 Full day\u00a0 Official opening, flag ceremony, roll call opening speeches, greetings and announcements.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 Keynote Speakers – <\/span>\u00a0Mary Robinsion<\/strong> – Women Leaders must step up and lead as never before, <\/span>\u00a0Suba Umathevan<\/strong> \u2013 breaking boundaries, inspiring change, her jounery towards inclusive leadership and gender equality and\u00a0<\/span>Sean Wensley<\/strong> \u2013 through a veterinarian\u2019s eyes, securing well-being for animals, people and planet. Including 5 Workshops and A Friendship Evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 3 Friday<\/strong> – Full day – Invited Speaker Mr Ma Ying Jeou,<\/strong> former President of Republic of China.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 Keynote speakers –\u00a0<\/span> Jim Gamble<\/strong> \u2013 Safeguarding, it\u2019s not about the technology, <\/span>\u00a0Nicole Ameline<\/strong> \u2013 Reduced inequalities \u2013 stand up for Human Rights.\u00a0<\/span>and Felisa Tibbitts<\/strong> \u2013 Transformative education for addressing climate change and global citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 4 Saturday<\/strong>– Full day \u2013 Introduction Peace and Security with Keynote speaker \u2013 Renata Dwan<\/strong> \u2013 women, peace and cyber security securing our future (her mother is a Soroptimist) .<\/span><\/p>\n

Introduction United Nations<\/strong> \u2013 SI United Nations Representatives \u2013 addressed SI Delegates for the 1st<\/sup> time, our voices at the United Nations<\/span><\/p>\n

Advocacy updates \u2013 Leigh Ellwood Brown and Beverly Bucur<\/span><\/p>\n

Launch of SI Foundation<\/strong> \u2013 In 2021 Soroptimist International Foundation was formed and gained charitable status in England and Wales, All President appeals are now managed by SI. Foundation benefiting financially from the charitable status<\/span><\/p>\n

Change of Insignia<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Address by Siew Yong Gnanalingam<\/strong> Incoming \u00a0SI President 2024 \u2013 2025 from a recorded message<\/span><\/p>\n

Closing Ceremony followed by Convention Gala dinner and Ceili night<\/span><\/p>\n

Final thoughts, it was an extraordinary experience attending an International convention, which only happens every four years. Feedback from our Region first timers were very encouraging and positive. We were inspired by the quality of the speakers and the overall programme provided.\u00a0 Very insightful and good to see all those great projects organised by clubs around the world helping women and girls.
