Festive Dinner

Sarah, our President Elect, hosted a fundraising Festive Dinner in aid of the Ngwino Nawe school. The menu included Beef tomato stew, cassava, green bananas, sweet potatoes with pineapple to follow. A donation of £132 will be sent to David Chaplin of Rwanda Aid  who will be visiting Pembrokeshire this coming Spring to give a talk and to thank us for our continued support.

Uniforms off to Rwanda

In September the uniforms changed for Hakin and Hubberston Schools in preparation for the opening of their new school in the new year. Local parent and daughter of one of our members wondered what would happen to all the outdated uniforms and remembering our link with the  Ngwino Nawe School in Rwanda suggested that a collection could be arranged. As a result 178 t-shirts and 165 sweatshirts will be on their way to Rwanda by Christmas.

Joanne recently revisited Ngwino Nawe school, taking with her some items donated by members. To read her report click on the link below.

A Very Warm Return to Ngwino Nawe Special School

The theme for Christmas 2015 at St. Clements was festivities Worldwide, so we decided to feature Rwanda using decorations provided by the project. Baubles made from grasses, Angels with wings of banana leaves and Christmas stockings fashioned from traditional dress material.

At Nigwino Nawe school a successful Training Day was held for parents of children with hearing loss. For the first time parents were able to communicate properly with their children.

Milford Haven Club has established a link with a local teacher trainer, Joanna Doyne, currently working for VSO in this Special School in Rwanda. Joanna is the daughter of one of our members.

We had an enjoyable evening learning about the school and members donated educational toys. An indian meal at a member’s home raised funds to help build a resource room at the school.

We hear that Joanna is progressing well with  planning the new resource area and we hope to be able to establish a link with Portfield school here in Pembrokeshire.
