Milford Haven Soroptimists have created a mural of hand-made flowers, with help from Soroptimists in St Austell in Cornwall, their frienship link club. The mural is composed of over 600 orange flowers. It is currently hanging up in the Torch Theatre where a Charity Film event is being held on 26th November. Orange is the colour adopted by the United Nations in their campaign to Eliminate Violence Against Women. The 25th November has been designated as a special day each year by the UN.[\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”4533,4534,4532″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]November 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were delighted to be able to present a cheque of \u00a3312 raised by running a Tombola at both Milford Haven and Neyland carnivals to Age Cymru.\u00a0 Kathy Lye accepted the cheque on behalf of Age Cymru[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]September 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of us braved the elements to take part in the Marine Conservation Society Beach Survey. https:\/\/www.mcsuk.org\/what-you-can-do\/join-a-beach-clean\/<\/a><\/p>\n

We were proud to present a cheque of \u00a31318 to Breast Cancer Now welcoming Christine Davies, a volunteer at the organisation, to accept the cheque.\u00a0 A fundraising fashion event was held in May at Image By Vanessa on Milford Marina to raise this impressive donation . Here women offer support to one another providing s place to meet and discuss ways to improve the circumstances of local people both young and old[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”616″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Spanning the Cleddau Bridge for International Women\u2019s Day March 2018[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”568″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Soroptimists, friends of Pembrokeshire Women\u2019s Festival and the SGI Buddhist group met on the Cleddau Bridge to celebrate International Women\u2019s Day. It was cold, wet and windy but that didn\u2019t stop over 100 women holding hands walking along the bridge to the accompanying sounds of Samba Doc drumming band.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”564″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Started by the Suffragettes, the first International Women\u2019s Day was celebrated in 1911 and despite all that has been achieved by women since then there is still a need to\u00a0 \u2018Press for Progress\u2019 for lasting improvement in the lives of women and girls throughout the world.<\/p>\n

The World Economic Forum\u2019s 2017 report tells us that gender parity is over 200 year away! so it\u2019s ever more important to keep motivated and support global activism for women\u2019s equality. This is a movement which chimes with our Soroptimist aim to inspire action and create opportunities for women to reach their full potential and take an active part in the development of their communities.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”530″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Gardening group<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve started a gardening group, helping our community to keep the weeds at bay and tidying up the public spaces. We began with the terrace at the Torch Theatre where many of our members already volunteer for front of house duties.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”529″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]We are very pleased to support Shalom House, one of Presidents Sheila and Trisha\u2019s chosen charity this year. We planted annuals in the summer to cheer up the view from the lounge window and returned this autumn to plant bulbs which hopefully will make a good show next spring.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”492″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Girl Power<\/p>\n

Milford Haven Brownies are planning a weekend of activities and Soroptimists are delighted to be able to contribute to the experience. After joining other organisations spanning the\u00a0Cleddau Bridge to mark International Women\u2019s Day some of us extended the walk around Westfield Pill Nature Reserve. thank you to everyone who supported the event.<\/p>\n

A few members gathered for a photoshoot to be sent to the campaign raising awareness of heart disease as a killer of women in many countries. We chose the Torch, our local theatre, as the venue because several of us are Front of House Volunteers there, also we have contributed toward the cost of installing a defibrillator at the Torch.<\/p>\n
