There will be a number of events taking place to celebrate International Women’s Day and celebrate.\u00a0 \u00a0Please see below events happening locally and regionally supported by Soroptimists:<\/p>\n

Regional Meeting\/Conference and Celebration of International Women\u2019s Day Sat 13 March 10am to 1pm on Zoom –\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are excited to be marking this special day in the #Soroptimist calendar with two inspirational women leaders \u2013\u00a0ACC Kerrin Wilson, QPM \u2013 Assistant Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Shrabani Basu author of the \u201cSpy Princess\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0who will talk to us about\u00a0Noor Inayat Khan\u00a0<\/strong>-the first woman radio operator to be infiltrated into occupied France in 1943. \"Kerrin<\/a>ACC Kerrin Wilson, QPM \u2013 Assistant Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Kerrin is one of only two female Chief Officer in the UK from an ethnic minority community and was awarded the Queen\u2019s Police Medal in the 2020 New Year\u2019s Honours List. Kerrin is an entertaining and challenging speaker who has had a fascinating career and was recognised in her citation for the medal for \u201cinspiring others to greatness\u201d and \u201cplacing diversity at the heart of her work\u201d.<\/p>\n

Kerrin works tirelessly to improve gender parity in policing and to develop people from ethnic minority backgrounds. As well as developing networks affiliated to the National Black Police Association (NBPA) in her previous forces, she has founded Supporting Minorities in Lincolnshire through Engagement (SMILE) at Lincolnshire Police and GLOW (Greater Lincolnshire Outstanding Women) \u2013 the voice of strong female leaders from across the public and private sectors of Lincolnshire to inspire the next generation of women and girls to achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n

\"Shrabani<\/a>Shrabani Basu<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 A renowned author and journalist was born and educated in India, moving to London in 1987. She has been the correspondent of the Calcutta-based newspaper Ananda Bazar Patrika and The Telegraph since that time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She has always combined her journalism with her love of history and has written 3 important books about the shared histories of India and Britain. Her book \u201cVictoria & Abdul:\u00a0<\/i>the true story of the Queen\u2019s closest confidante\u201d was turned into a successful film and her growing passion for the story of Noor Inayat Khan, which began with her book \u201cSpy Princess\u201d led to her successful campaign for a statue and blue plaque to commemorate Noor Inayat Khan as the first woman radio operator to be infiltrated into occupied France in 1943. The statue was unveiled in 2012 and the blue plaque in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
