{"id":5699,"date":"2023-07-09T11:44:20","date_gmt":"2023-07-09T10:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/?p=5699"},"modified":"2023-07-09T12:03:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T11:03:48","slug":"specialist-domestic-abuse-courts-how-special-were-they-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/2023\/07\/09\/specialist-domestic-abuse-courts-how-special-were-they-in-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Specialist Domestic Abuse Courts &#8211; How special were they in 2022?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/2023\/07\/09\/specialist-domestic-abuse-courts-how-special-were-they-in-2022\/sigbi-dv-report-2023\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5700\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5700 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/files\/2023\/07\/SIGBI-DV-Report-2023.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/files\/2023\/07\/SIGBI-DV-Report-2023.jpg 328w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/milton-keynes\/files\/2023\/07\/SIGBI-DV-Report-2023-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Specialist Domestic Abuse Courts \u2013 a call for action<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\">\u201cSpecialist Domestic Abuse Courts \u2013 How special were they in 2022?&#8221; is a report prepared by members of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer women\u2019s organisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\">Some 160 members of the organisation have carried out structured observations of over 30 Specialist Domestic Abuse Courts across England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\">The information in the report shows a clear increase in the number of victims of domestic abuse, yet the system which was established and developed over a five-year period in 1999 as a special form of Magistrates Court set up to hear and provide specific support to the victims of domestic abuse, is falling short of the service which the public has a right to expect from these courts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\">Key findings include, amongst others:<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7708464130MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Absence of specialist courts across the country.
