What have we been doing these last 3 months.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"April \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/a>\"March \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/a>\"April\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/a>\"Mach<\/a><\/p>\n

Our<\/strong> \u201c90<\/strong> challenges\u201d,<\/strong> celebrating<\/strong> SIGBI\u2019s<\/strong> 90<\/strong> years<\/strong> this<\/strong> year<\/strong> as<\/strong> a<\/strong> Federation<\/strong> are<\/strong> going<\/strong> well.<\/strong>\u00a0 We have already achieved 5 challenges, which impressed the Regional Conference we hosted in June.\u00a0 A little more about that later.<\/p>\n

At the end of March we donated 90 new and slightly used bras to Smalls for Us.\u00a0 A UK charity that collects underwear for people in Africa and the UK who can\u2019t afford or can\u2019t get any.\u00a0 Because Dignity matters.<\/p>\n

The \u00a0second \u00a090 \u00a0challenge \u00a0was \u00a0taking \u00a0part \u00a0in \u00a0MK Foodbank\u2019s MK Logo challenge for Easter.\u00a0 They asked communities, schools, groups and businesses if they could make up their logo or an easter picture in food items.\u00a0 We made up our logo with just over 90 items of food as well as donating over 100 food items to YMCA MK so that they could also take part in this challenge.\u00a0 MK\u00a0 Foodbank\u00a0 MK\u00a0 Can\u00a0 Logo\u00a0 challenge \u00a0raised \u00a0over 19,500 food items for the Easter period to support those in need.<\/p>\n

Our third 90 challenge was everyone helping to collect 90 pairs of pants, in fact we collected 93 pairs.\u00a0 These alongside another 68 bras donated by members and friends were donated to UnityMK.\u00a0 They told us they were really short of underwear, especially for women who approach them.\u00a0\u00a0Next came 90 pairs of socks, men\u2019s and women\u2019s and these were also taken to UnityMK in June.<\/p>\n

And we have now donated \u00a390 to SI Wakiso, a new club in Uganda, chartered in 2023.\u00a0 Their first project is to fundraise in order to build a Cervical Cancer Centre, after talking to their community to see what they needed.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They linked up with SI Libertas to hold a webinar asking Soroptimist clubs to help out.\u00a0 You \u00a0can \u00a0make \u00a0a \u00a0donation \u00a0by \u00a0clicking \u00a0on \u00a0the \u00a0following link http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/yhhn97uz<\/a><\/p>\n

A big thank you everyone and your friends for all contributing to these challenges. \u00a0\u00a0Mags at UnityMK \u00a0was \u00a0so \u00a0grateful \u00a0to \u00a0receive \u00a0the underwear.\u00a0 It highlights how just small things can mean so much to helping those in need.\u00a0 \u00a0But we still have the rest of the year, so watch this space to see what new 90 challenges we take on.<\/p>\n

\"Nov At the beginning of May we met at MK Snap to sort out our SOS toiletries <\/strong>collected<\/strong> from members and our donation points at The Mead Centre, Newport Pagnell, Great Linford Parish Council Offices, The Redhouse Surgery, Bletchley and MK Snap.\u00a0 As a result, 3 boxes were taken to YMCA MK and 3 were taken to MK Act.\u00a0 \u00a0If you have any unused toiletries please drop them of at our donation points or contact us, we can find a good home for them where they will be much appreciated.<\/p>\n

\"May<\/a>On<\/strong> the<\/strong> 4<\/strong> May<\/strong> we<\/strong> enjoyed<\/strong> taking<\/strong> part<\/strong> in<\/strong> MK<\/strong> Snap\u2019s<\/strong> May<\/strong> Fayre.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Thank you, Zita, Scottie, Laraine, Mala and Vanessa, for staffing our stall.\u00a0 The stall looked fantastic, we made some money and distributed out leaflets to raise awareness of what we do.<\/p>\n

\"May<\/a>In <\/strong>May<\/strong> we<\/strong> had<\/strong> a<\/strong> huge<\/strong> thank<\/strong> you<\/strong> from<\/strong> MK<\/strong> Act<\/strong> for<\/strong> the<\/strong> donation<\/strong> of<\/strong> staple<\/strong> kitchen<\/strong> cupboard<\/strong> food<\/strong> items<\/strong> in<\/strong> the<\/strong> fantastic<\/strong> jars<\/strong> labelled<\/strong> up<\/strong> by<\/strong> Mary.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Over 60 jars of food were provided and these will be given to new residents arriving into the safe accommodation provided by MK Act.\u00a0 They come with nothing and it is vital to provide them with the essentials to help them get their lives back on track, \u00a0click<\/strong> here<\/strong><\/a> to see the reel they made on Facebook.<\/p>\n

A big thank you to Sally and her team and a couple of our members, who at the beginning of June, baked 200 cakes for MK Act\u2019s event at Broughton and MK Parish Council’s residents meeting for fundraising, raising awareness of the services they provide and to see if anyone one in Broughton wanted to volunteer for the charity.<\/p>\n

And we have been very fortunate in being able to make other essential donations to our charities this month.\u00a0 \u00a0Two \u00a0black \u00a0sacks \u00a0of \u00a0clothes \u00a0and \u00a0shoes were donated to the Greenleys Community club\u00a0 supporting\u00a0 those\u00a0 residents\u00a0 most\u00a0 in need.\u00a0 And another sack and shoes were dropped off to UnityMK.\u00a0\u00a0One of our members was given a brand- new microwave, which we donated to MK Act to help a resident when they are able to move out and set up their new home.<\/p>\n

And<\/strong> at<\/strong> the<\/strong> beginning<\/strong> of<\/strong> June<\/strong> we<\/strong> received<\/strong> a<\/strong> lovely<\/strong> message<\/strong> from<\/strong> our<\/strong> friendship<\/strong> club<\/strong> SI<\/strong> Krakow<\/strong> and<\/strong> an<\/strong> update<\/strong> on<\/strong> the<\/strong> latest<\/strong> project<\/strong> we<\/strong> have<\/strong> helped<\/strong> them<\/strong> with.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"June<\/a><\/p>\n

As a result of a zoom meeting held with Krakow back in the autumn of 2023, when they told us of a home near Krakow where there were orphaned Ukrainian children, we agreed it would be good to do something for these children.\u00a0 It was decided to make the children a gift for Children\u2019s Day, which falls on 1 June in Poland. SI Krakow asked the children what would make them happy and it turned out that they would most like to receive a Barbeque or they call it a gas grill. On the last day of May, two soroptimists from Krakow Club took part in a picnic for the children and the newly purchased barbeque, which our funds helped to purchase, was used.\u00a0 SI Krakow have told us that the Ukrainians will need long term support to acclimatise to a new culture and to get support to be able to get jobs and a home. And so, we hope we can continue to help them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"June<\/a>On<\/strong> the<\/strong> 11<\/strong> June<\/strong> we<\/strong> provided<\/strong> a<\/strong> buffet<\/strong> meal<\/strong> for<\/strong> the<\/strong> homeless<\/strong> at<\/strong> UnityMK.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We<\/strong> usually<\/strong> provide<\/strong> a<\/strong> buffet<\/strong> at<\/strong> Xmas,<\/strong> but<\/strong> the<\/strong> feedback<\/strong> was<\/strong> so<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>positive<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>that<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>we<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>said<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>we<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>would<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>provide<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>another<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>during<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>the<\/strong> summer.<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>We\u00a0 teamed\u00a0 up\u00a0 with\u00a0 the\u00a0 Tuesday \u00a0Unity\u00a0 Park\u00a0 Community\u00a0 Club.\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0Every Tuesday and Wednesday they provide hot food, drink and company and many turn up, both past and present.\u00a0 This day we said we will do the food to give the Tuesday Club volunteers a chance to just rest and chat with the clients.\u00a0 A disco was also provided by the Tuesday Club and a lovely time was had by all.\u00a0 By 2pm we had served over 70 people.\u00a0 And we received a lovely thank you message on UnityMK Facebook page thanking us for our time and food donations to help brighten up everyone\u2019s day. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

And with the help of a friend we were able to make a donation of 29 boxes of various chocolate\u2019s, not only to the UnityMK clients, who loved the bars of chocolates last xmas but to the families at MK Act and to the children looked after by the Ukraine Appeal charity here in MK.<\/p>\n

\"June\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/a>\"\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

And on the 15 June we were delighted to be able to host the Soroptimist International London and Chiltern Regional meeting at MK Snap, celebrating inspirational women.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Thank you, Angie, for letting us host it at MK Snap, everyone loves this venue.<\/p>\n

The meeting was opened by Kate Belinis (pictured in the first picture, on the left top row), our Regions current Chair, and whose theme is Celebrating Inspirational Women.\u00a0 Then we were very privileged to have the new High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Kurshida Mirza BEM (third picture top row) talk to us.\u00a0 Kurshida is the first British Muslim woman of Asian heritage to take this office on.\u00a0 Kurshida spoke to us about her childhood and the many challenges she faced but how her faith and being inspired by her mother kept her going.\u00a0 In her year of office her plans include prioritizing activities to tackle social exclusion and strengthen communities.\u00a0 It was a truly inspiring speech and you can listen to it at the London and Chilterns soroptimist page.\u00a0 And it was lovely to be able to present Kurshida with a domed indoor plant garden made by the learners at MK Snap.<\/p>\n

The event also included our club talking about our Violet Awards, celebrating unsung heroes working in our charities, our new 90 Challenges projects and the work we are doing with the Ukraine refugees here in MK and with SI Krakow in Poland.\u00a0 We ended the morning session on a high with our friends from Ukraine Charty, coming to sing for us and getting everyone out of their seats to sing along, a truly uplifting morning and we thank them.\u00a0 For all they are going through they remain positive and full of joy and this is what they brough to the regional conference.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon we had two speakers. Ann Child, a trustee of the SIGBI Diamond Education Grant (EDG) who explained how clubs could support the work of this grant.<\/p>\n

And out last speaker was the ever-inspiring Dishi Attwood, SIGBI Director of Membership.\u00a0 Always full of enthusiasm and giving us many ideas on how we can go out there and drum up more members.\u00a0 And she also spoke about the changes SIGBI is preparing to undergo.<\/p>\n

It was a great event and I think we all came away inspired in one way or another.\u00a0 You can read more about the event and listen to the speakers just click<\/strong> here<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>And<\/strong> we<\/strong> had<\/strong> a<\/strong> wonderful<\/strong> meeting<\/strong> on<\/strong> 21<\/strong> June<\/strong> which<\/strong> started<\/strong> in<\/strong> the<\/strong> best<\/strong> possible<\/strong> way<\/strong> by<\/strong> welcoming<\/strong> our<\/strong> new<\/strong> members<\/strong> Summer<\/strong> and<\/strong> Scottie<\/strong> with<\/strong> their<\/strong> new<\/strong> members<\/strong> badges<\/strong> and<\/strong> certificate.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

We hope they will enjoy being a part of the club, make new friends and enjoy what we do.<\/p>\n
