The Club’s 75th Charter Anniversary
On Sunday, 11 May 2014 the members of SI Morecambe and Heysham celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Club’s Charter with a lunch at the Headway Hotel, Morecambe.
This happy occasion was attended by Club members and their guests, Regional President Edna Haselden, presidents and members of other SI Clubs within the Region of the North West of England and the Isle of Man, members of SI Bootle, our Friendship Link club, and Pat Steel-Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa.
Congratulations were received from the SI Clubs in the Region of the North West of England and the Isle of Man and from our Friendship Link clubs of SI Bootle and SI Selby.
The lunch commenced with President Brenda introducing guests Regional President Edna Haselden and Pat Steel-Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa of the Khiraule Education and Health Project.
Grace was said by member Bonnie Mitchell:
“We give hearty thanks for the food we are about to eat. We are grateful for the bonds we create and nurture through eating together and sharing; bonds which strengthen us to work with our sisters for those who have less. We thank that which is greater than ourselves for the love and loyalty of friends old and new, far and near and for our hands joined in peace around the world.”
At the end of the meal the delicious cake which had been made by member Noreen Haselden was served and much appreciated by all.
Regional President Edna presented two members of SI Morecambe and Heysham with certificates commemorating their 25 years as Soroptimists.
President Therese presented Lhakpa Sherpa with a cheque for the Khiraule Education and Health Project which had been the Club’s charity for 2013-2014. Lhakpa thanked Therese and the members for choosing to support the project and spoke about how the money would be used for education and health supplies in the village of Khiraule in Nepal.
