International Women’s Day 2020 – members get together<\/h1>\n

One of our members, Carole Salthouse hosted celebration of IWD on Sunday 8th<\/sup>\u00a0March.\u00a0\u00a0About 20\u00a0\u00a0members attended along with\u00a0\u00a0a few brave husbands and we were all treated to excellent snacks and drinks.\u00a0\u00a0 Member Vi Pritchard organised a quiz about famous women over the centuries and this was won by Maggie and Trevor Evans who went home with a smart box of chocolates.\u00a0 \u00a360 was collected for the Empowering Girls in Nepal charity and this was added to at the Business Meeting on 10 March reaching a total donation of \u00a3100 for this month.<\/p>\n

International Women\u2019s Day 2020 – Crewe Women’s Day<\/h1>\n

As International Women\u2019s Day approaches on March 8th we have been reflecting on how we\u00a0can live the theme of Each for Equal and promote an equal, enabled world. How do we\u00a0actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women\u2019s achievements? With this in mind, last Saturday we joined with other local women\u2019s organisations at South Cheshire College for Crewe Women\u2019s Day.\u00a0There was a real buzz about the place, with charity stalls and events going on \u2013 including a showing of Ada, about local suffragette Ada Neild Chew, poetry, workshops with survivors of abuse. We celebrated local amazing women nominated by the community and pledged to do our best to enable women to be free to be ourselves. It was fun and meaningful and really uplifting.

February 2020 \u2013 We meet Prue Leith!<\/h1>\n

One of TV\u2019s \u201cBake Off\u201d stars Prue Leith made an appearance in Nantwich on Tuesday 25th of March to promote her new Book \u201cThe Vegetarian Kitchen\u201d. Many members of the Nantwich Soroptimists were very pleased to hear Prue and her niece Peta talk about the various recipes, hints on freezing, attitudes to vegetarianism and many other \u201cveggie\u201d and \u201cvegan\u201d questions. Everyone received a signed copy of the book and vowed to go home to start experimenting.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_media_grid element_width=”6″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1586704704411-cd65bf0c-f252-4″ include=”4495,4496″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

February 2020 \u2013 Supporting the Nantwich Thursday Club for people with dementia and their carers<\/h1>\n

The first meeting of the Nantwich Thursday Club providing social activities for people living with Dementia and their carers was a great success. Everyone joined in decorating cakes and biscuits, singing, chatting and enjoying tea\/coffee and cake. Here is a photo of all the helpers from organisations including In Safe Hands, Right at Home, Wishing Well, Cheshire East, Cheshire Police, Morrisons, Richmond Village and Nantwich Soroptimists. The next Thursday club will be on 13th February 10.00- 12.30 when we will be making Valentines cards.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”4494″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

We had fun decorating our charity tree at St Mary\u2019s Acton! This year we are supporting efforts to make Crewe and Nantwich more dementia friendly and our tree is covered in forget-me-nots \u2013 the dementia friendly flower symbol.<\/p>\n

Think On It!<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Our President for 2019\/20 is Helen Piddock- Jones and she has chosen her theme for the year to be \u201cThink On It\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”1458″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]SIGBI Federation President Sue Williams has a theme for this year entitled \u2018Think on it\u2019 which encourages Members to raise awareness of mental health.<\/em><\/p>\n

She says\u00a0\u201cGood mental health is fundamental to thriving in life. It is the essence of who we are and how we experience the world. Yet, compared to physical health, so little is commonly known about mental ill health and how to prevent it. That must change\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Helen says: \u201cI am taking her lead and devoting my whole year to all aspects of mental health. Now that may all sound a bit depressing but it isn\u2019t because in each situation we are going to be looking at the positives. What can be done by experts and amateurs like us to make things better. We will also be looking for projects in which we can get involved.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
