{"id":410,"date":"2016-09-30T21:26:06","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T19:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/?p=410"},"modified":"2016-09-30T21:34:01","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T19:34:01","slug":"update-from-september-29th-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/2016\/09\/30\/update-from-september-29th-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Update from September 29th meeting &#8211; Tyneside Women&#8217;s Health Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">On Thursday September 29<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, our club speaker was Sophie Mitchell from the Tyneside Women\u2019s Health Project. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">She spoke about their work to provide services to women who are victims of domestic abuse. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/files\/2016\/09\/sept-29th.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-411\" src=\"\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/files\/2016\/09\/sept-29th-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"sept 29th\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/Users\/MyNewPc\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/msohtmlclip1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\" width=\"157\" height=\"193\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"12\" \/><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">The project is funded by Comic Relief. Their main office is in Gateshead but they also have a smaller branch in Byker and recently have just opened an outreach office in North Tyneside. Part of their work is to <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">deliver workshops for<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">professionals to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues. Other aspects of their work, is to provide support groups for mental health needs; <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">counselling services to all volunteers who are undergoing training and<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">craft making groups. In addition, they have spoken to<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">groups of Gateshead schoolchildren about younger women\u2019s healthy relationships including what is consent; honour based violence and forced marriages. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Sophie said that success included fifteen support groups established in Gateshead, twelve in Newcastle and review groups<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">after the initial support has finished.
