She made the kind donation as her daughter Laura, whom she used to buy clothes for, left home to set up her own home with her partner.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">As she no longer had to support Laura she decided to give a donation to our group in Newcastle to hopefully make a difference and support women who needed a New Start Bag. This generosity was over and above what had been expected and Cris was overwhelmed by her kindness<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Lyn is contacting all the Metro Centre staff to ask for support and to donate items for the New Start bags. This campaign will run from June 12<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"> until July 10<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\">. Lyn will collect the items in her office until someone from our group can pick them up. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Heather was also successful in applying to Killfrost Ltd for a grant of \u00a32,200 for the purchase of an Orcam My Eye device for Lee Harding. Heather met Lee when she was conducting mock interviews with students on the Project Choice course at Gateshead College.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Lee received the equipment on April 7<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"> as well as training\u00a0from Orcam on how to use it safely.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"> It took a couple of hours to go through all the different features and ensure Lee was confident with using it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>,<a href=\"\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/files\/2017\/05\/fundraising-may-2017-c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-529\" src=\"\/newcastle-upon-tyne\/files\/2017\/05\/fundraising-may-2017-c-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Lee (pictured here with one of his college teachers), \" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Lee (pictured here with one of his college teachers), <\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">has Alstom\u2019s Syndrome\u00a0which is more complex and more devastating that just sight loss.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">He had an older brother with the same condition and who sadly died.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Comic Sans MS';font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The OrCam is a new, specialised device, comprising of a small camera which takes pictures and from this it reads out the text from books, computer screens etc. It also has facial recognition and can recognise different objects.
