Northallerton & District Soroptimists met on 11th May .
Our speakers were Catherine Walters and Deborah Gell from Mental Health Support Group.
They explained that two in three people suffer with mental health problems and over 105 billion pounds is spent on it by the NHS but only six pence in very pound is spent on research
Catherine and Deborah said that the group was set up in 1980 by a Doctor in Thirsk wanting to give patients discharged from hospital a place to go and have somewhere to chat.
Since those early days the group has grown and now have offer a wide range of services including Day Support services, Drop-Ins and Wellbeing Centres and Outreach Support across the Hambleton and Richmondshire area.
