Soroptimists International Belfast (SI Belfast)

Programme Action 2018/19(@ March 2019)

SI Belfast participated in the following activities/events:

2 May 2018– Coffee morning at the open garden in Kircubbin – Regional fundraising event for Meru Garden Project.

18 May 2018– Seven Club members attended the North/South Conference in Killarney. This was very good representation and we all had an enjoyable conference.

10 June 2018– Participated in the ‘Votes for Women’ Anniversary march from Titanic Slipway to Belfast City Hall.

13 June 2018– Programme Action Lead was invited by Downpatrick and District Club to attend a garden party hosted by the President of the Republic of Ireland, Michael D Higgins at his residence, Aras an Uachtaran in Dublin.  This was a great privilege.

 7 July 2018– The UK PAC meeting was held in the Europa Hotel, Belfast. Stewarding was provided by SI Belfast at the event, also attended as delegates.

8 September 2018– NI Regional President, Joanne Harris organised her final Regional meeting which commenced with a BBQ at the Hilden Brewery, Lisburn, at which the speaker, shared his experiences as a volunteer anaesthetist on Mercy Ships in Africa.  This was an inspirational presentation.

19 October 2018– Assisted with a Regional response to a Dept. of Justice consultation relating to the Draft Modern Day Slavery Strategy.

25-27 October 2018– Three Club members attended SIGBI Conference in Liverpool.

21 November 2018– White Ribbon Showcase as part of Club ‘Movies Night’ at the Strand Cinema Belfast.

White Ribbon Campaign – White Ribbon UK was founded in 2005.  It is a global movement to end male violence against women.

The United Nations General Assembly has designated 25 November as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.  On this day until 10 December it promotes 16 days of Activism.

8 December 2018– Attended a White Ribbon Event hosted by SI Drogheda in the Boyne Valley Hotel.

2 February 2019– Attended NI Regional President, Catherine Milhench’s lunch in the Clayton Hotel, Belfast.

5 March 2019– Attended International Women’s Day event in Belfast City Hall – Theme: ‘Maternal Mental Health’.

7 March 2019– Attended a Café Style International Women’s Day event at Craigavon Civic Centre, which was hosted by SI Portadown and Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council.

9 March 2019– Attended SI Lisburn and District’s Afternoon Tea to celebrate their 37thAnniversary.

March 2019– Honey Bee Colony established on the Stormont Estate in partnership with Infinity Farm, Stormont Estateand SI Belfast.  This process commenced in June 2018 and was a big achievement for President Anne Orr and the Belfast Club.
