Members were keen to help with the devastating aftermath of the Ebola crisis in that country and have been raising money to pay for the schooling of children orphaned because of this terrible disease. Once a year at our International Evening we celebrate the achievements of members worldwide and this year it was a delight to welcome Doreen Weigh Programme Action Officer and Natalie Cole President of Freetown who updated us on their very active programme of projects. <strong>They have<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Raised funds for a water supply for a school for disabled children (also available for the community)<\/li>\n<li>Built toilets for two schools<\/li>\n<li>Provide education in two centres for the children of medical staff, who lost their life treating patients with Ebola.<\/li>\n<li>Run a mentoring scheme to improve children\u2019s English, but also to improve self-esteem and confidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a wonderful international partnership and we were very happy to hand over a cheque for \u00a3730.00 to these very busy ladies.\u00a0 For the record:[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_media_grid element_width=&#8221;6&#8243; grid_id=&#8221;vc_gid:1587725382557-8ae1d2ff-5a82-9&#8243; include=&#8221;853,854&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Nottingham Soroptimists have a long-standing link with the Soroptimist Club in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
