OUR 75th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION LUNCH : SUNDAY 17th MARCH.

We held a Celebration lunch at Blanco’s Hotel to mark our 75th anniversary. Our inspirational speaker was Helle Thorning-Schmidt who was accompanied by her husband, our local MP, Mr Stephen Kinnock. Also attending were the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Mr Chris Williams and his Mayoress, Mrs Debbie Rees, Ruth Healey, President of Soroptimist International Great Briton and Ireland plus Helen Scourfield, President Elect South Wales Region.
An excellent lunch was enjoyed by Soroptimist’s family and friends.

The wonderful celebration cake was made by President Elect SI Port Talbot, Judith Morgan assisted by her mum Soroptimist Maureen Morgan. The gorgeous flower arrangements were arranged by Margaret O’Connor assisted by Gwyneth Morgan. President, Mrs Jean Davies wishes to express heartfelt thanks to SI Port Talbot members who worked so hard to ensure the day was a success.


DINNER WITH OUR CANNOCK FRIENDS : SATURDAY, 16th MARCH

Some of us were delighted to have dinner with our SI Cannock who had travelled to join with us for our 75 year celebrations.

We have received photographs of these girls who are street children in Cambodia receiving the uniforms which we have donated. 85 uniforms were purchased with the £500 donation. Many happy faces!


INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Delighted that we held a very successful Fairtrade breakfast attended by members and friends.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 7th : ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER

Much fun and friendship was shared as a very good time was enjoyed by all. Well done to the hotel for a beautiful dinner.


TUESDAY DECEMBER 5th : COFFEE MORNING – GENDER VIOLENCE

Members met to have coffee in Port Talbot Station Cafe to again raise awareness of the 17 days of activism to end gender based violence.


TUESDAY NOVEMBER 28th : HYBRID CAFE COFFEE MORNING

SI Port Talbot and SI Neath joined together at the Hybrid Cafe to raise awareness of the 17 days of activism to end gender based violence. We were treated to a short talk from Paula, an inspirational woman who owns the cafe. She talked about her passion which is to give space to individuals and groups who have need for it. The cafe is a delightful place with a gallery of artwork, examples of poetry and jewellery.


MONDAY NOVEMBER 27th : ORANGE THE WORLD TREE

We have had a Christmas tree in the Margam Park Christmas tree festival decorated in orange to highlight the need to end violence against women. Today as the festival ended we decorated another tree in Port Talbot library to promote the 17 days of activism.


THURSDAY NOVEMBER 23rd : SPEAKER EVENING

Sharon Dixon gave a very interesting talk on The English Speaking Union after a brief insight into her life and beliefs. Her positivity is absolutely infectious.


NOVEMBER : CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL

SI Port Talbot Christmas tree at Margam Park Christmas Tree Festival. The orange decorations symbolise Orange the world- end violence against women. On 16th November the public voted our Christmas tree their favourite


SATURDAY 18th NOVEMBER: MAYOR’S CIVIC SERVICE

President Jean and Margaret O’Connor attended Neath Port Talbot Mayor, Chris Williams’ Civic service at St Matthew’s Church, Bryncoch followed by a reception at the Glyn Clydach Hotel.


WEDNESDAY 1st NOVEMBER: SWISHING PARTY

President Jean held a swishing party at her home. Members and friends donated and bought clothes and bags while enjoying cheese and wine, coffee and tea. It was an afternoon of much fun and friendship.


THURSDAY 26th OCTOBER: ANNUAL COFFEE MORNING

A very successful coffee morning with an excellent speaker. Matthew Davies, Detective Inspector Tarzan Regional Cyber Crime Unit spoke regarding keeping safe on the internet. The charity he nominated is Surfability who provide an adapted and inclusive experience to boost well being in people with additional needs due to disability, illness, injury or learning difficulties.


SATURDAY 30th SEPTEMBER: TFSR

A Wonderful response from local people. Last count 22 sewing machines as well as many tools of all descriptions.

THURSDAY 28th SEPTEMBER : CINNAMON KITCHEN

We enjoyed fun and friendship at the Cinammon  – delicious food and good company. Thank you to Judith Morgan for organising.

MONDAY 25th SEPTEMBER : ‘ORANGE COFFEE MORNING’

We joined together to publicaly promote awareness of violence against women. It was also an opportunity to enjoy fun and friendship


THURSDAY AFTERNOONS: THERAPY

Each Thursday afternoon President Jean and her dog Lottie visit school. Lottie becomes a therapy/well being dog working with a small number of  pupils to give ‘special time’.


SATURDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER: HEARTS OF THE VALLEY SHOW

Again this year SI Port Talbot manned a stall at the Hearts of the Valley Show. While members donated bottles for the stall, thanks must go to Sue Evans and Ann Baker for leading and organising the day.


FRIDAY 4th AUGUST: VISIT TO THE RICHARD PRICE CENTRE IN LLANGEINOR

The day started with a visit to the Richard Price centre where we saw  a wonderful and informative display about the life of Richard Price. We had been inspired to visit after a talk by our member Janner and had invited SI Bridgend members to join us. This was followed by a delicious lunch at the Llangeinor Arms. It was a wonderful day of fun and friendship.



  1. THURSDAY 27th JULY: R.NLI. Fish and Chip Evening

An excellent talk from Rachel at the R.N.L.I. followed by smashing fish and chips. Thanks to Gaynor taking the lead in organising.

FRIDAY 14th JULY: VISIT TO CRAIG Y NOS

Members enjoyed a very informative tour of Madam Patti’s home at Craig Y Nos. We then travelled to the Abercrave Inn for a delicious lunch.

THURSDAY 13th JULY: CHEQUE PRESENTATION

A cheque for £3000 was presented to Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge. The money was raised at our very successful  annual Fashion Show in Margam Orangery.

UKRANIAN REFUGEES SUPPORT GROUP

Each Friday morning 2 members,  Patt Morgan and Margaret O’Connor, attend a coffee morning to support the local UKRANIAN Refugees.

THURSDAY 29th JUNE 2023: SPEAKER EVENING

Mrs Margaret Poston introduced speakers from both Llamau and Housing Justice Cymru. Both organisations gave informative and thought provoking talks enjoyed by members.

TUESDAY 5th JUNE 2023: ANNUAL FASHION SHOW & CRAFT FAYRE

Another extremely successful event attended by Susan Jones, Deputy Lord Lieutenant and Neath Mayoress, Debbie Rees together with members of Neath and Bridgend Soroptimist’s. Altogether 230 attended in the glorious Margam Orangery.

After the fashion show a gorgeous 2 course lunch was provided and then pupils from CwmBrombil entertained wonderfully with their singing.

 

SATURDAY 17th SEPTEMBER 2022:  COLLECTION OF TOOLS AT TESCO PORT TALBOT

A very successful collection took place.


 

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, 20th and 21st SEPTEMBER : CANNOCK VISIT

Members enjoyed a wonderful visit hosted by SI Cannock. They were superb hosts, making us extremely welcome. The visit also included a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum at Airewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.


THURSDAY 27th OCTOBER 2022: BBC VISIT

Members visited the BBC studios in Cardiff where we were given a very interesting and informative tour. We then saw the impressive statue


THURSDAY 24th NOVEMBER 2022 :     ANNUAL COFFEE MORNING

Our Coffee Morning this year coincided with a launch for 16 days of activism for violence against women. Every guest was given an orange ribbon pin to wear throughout the period of activism and the ballroom was decorated beautifully.

DECEMBER 2022 : CHRISTMAS TREES AT THE CASTLE

Again this year we were delighted to place our Christmas Tree in the Castle in Margam Park. Our tree was decorated in Ukrainian colours and the theme was peace. On the tree were prayers in both English and Ukrainian.


SATURDAY 10th DECEMBER : LLANELLI HOUSE VISIT

Members visited Llanelli House where we were given an excellent tour and enjoyed a very tasty Christmas lunch.

SATURDAY, 4th MARCH 2023: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BREAKFAST

We held our breakfast at Ysbryd-Y-Mor on Aberavon seafront where not only did we enjoy a continental breakfast but also a wonderful view of the sea. Our fair trade breakfast was enjoyed by members and guests totalling 75 people. Our outstanding speaker was Louise Fleet, Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan. She gave us an excellent and informative presentation about her career path and an outline of her role as Lord Lieutenant. The proceeds of our raffle will go to the charity of her choice which is the Neath Port Talbot Contact centre.

THURSDAY 23rd MARCH 2023

Members enjoyed an extremely interesting talk from member, Janner Herd about the life of Dr Richard Price.

SATURDAY, 25th MARCH

Sharon Dixon, Wales South -A great 5k walk with fellow Soroptimist’s followed by a cuppa and a natter! Taking good care of our well being!! Just enjoying some Fun and Friendship…The rain stayed away Members of SI Port Talbot having a coffee on the windswept Aberavon Beach today.

 

THURSDAY 27th APRIL 2023:  INAUGURATION OF 3 NEW MEMBERS

At our AGM, club inaugurated 3 new members. We welcomed Sandra Merchant, Hilary Breeze and June Williams as new members.

 

THURSDAY 11th MAY 2023: CORONATION DINNER

Before our business meeting we held a Coronation Dinner at the Aberavon Hotel. Much fun and friendship was enjoyed by all. Judith Morgan made scrumptious cup cakes.
