{"id":5004,"date":"2023-03-25T12:00:37","date_gmt":"2023-03-25T11:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/port-talbot\/?p=5004"},"modified":"2025-09-09T22:24:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T21:24:39","slug":"walk-your-way-to-well-being","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/port-talbot\/2023\/03\/25\/walk-your-way-to-well-being\/","title":{"rendered":"Walk your way to Well-being"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all know walking \u2013 even just 20 mins a day \u2013 can do wonders for your mental health and physical health.\u00a0 It helps to;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce stress<\/li>\n<li>Boost heart health<\/li>\n<li>Clear your mind<\/li>\n<li>Improve sleep and,<\/li>\n<li>Lift your mood, among other things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With all that in mind, on an overcast Saturday in March a few of our members got together for a 5K walk along the windswept but picturesque promenade at Aberavon Beach with SI Regional President Sharon Dixon.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sharon Dixon, Wales South said \u201cA great walk with Fellow Soroptimist\u2019s followed by a cupper and a natter!\u00a0 Taking good care of our well-being!!\u00a0 Just enjoying some Fun and Friendship\u2026 The rain stayed away\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Walking has an additional benefit for Women as it regulates cortisol (stress hormone) and supports hormonal health, especially during menopause or menstrual cycles.\u00a0 It strengthens bones reducing the risk of osteoporosis which is an increased risk for post-menopausal women.
