However some toponymists interpret it as wild-garlic-valley, with the first element representing the Old English\u00a0<em>hramsa\u00a0<\/em>meaning \u201cwild garlic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>March 1952 \u2013 SI Ramsbottom Chartered sponsored by SI Bury, who became our Mother Club.<\/p>\n<p>May 2022\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 Currently our club has 16 members of all ages, interests and diversity.<\/p>\n<p>Club\u00a0Meetings are held on the second Tuesday at Ramsbottom Cricket Club at 7.30 Speaker meetingsare held on the fourth Tuesday at 7.45p.m. with an optional two course meal prior to the meeting at 6.30 at is the Red Hall Hotel. Walmersley Road, Ramsbottom<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimist International of Ramsbottom\u00a0members work:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to promote justice and equality by\u00a0education to enable and empower women through economic independence.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage and enable greater participation in decision making at all levels of society<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>with club, regional,\u00a0national and international service projects.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are a Global Voice for Women, striving, through Awareness, Advocacy &amp; Action, \u00a0for Human Rights for All, Equality, Development and Peace through International Goodwill and Understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In \u00a0the last few years we have supported \u00a0the following organisations amongst others:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Porchboxes<\/li>\n<li>Rossendale &amp; Bury Hospices<\/li>\n<li>Ramsbottom Pantry<\/li>\n<li>Ramsbottom Cricket Club<\/li>\n<li>Fortalice<\/li>\n<li>Orbis<\/li>\n<li>Macmillan Nurses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How do we do this:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Within the club we provide support and friendship for all members.<\/li>\n<li>We hold annual events to raise funds e.g. Charity Theatre Night; Strawberry &amp; Christmas Treats, Quiz night and our popular Charity Lunch at the Cricket Cub. at which we sponsor a match. \u00a0We also hold an Afternoon Tea for senior members of the Community..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We join with other Soroptimist members to serve the larger communities at Region, National and International
