New \u00a0Programme Action Barbara Dixon Award\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Theme 2022\u00a0 –\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span>Climate Change Act Now\u00a0 from Local to Global<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

This was the first year in which the award was launched and SI Rhyl & District<\/span> club won it for our Environmental Project work which included:-<\/span><\/p>\n

Bee Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Past President Sylvia receives the Award on behalf of Club<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
    \n
  • Worked with the Welsh and Conwy Beekeeping Associations to develop a project to promote the importance of Honey Bees to the environment and food chain.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Visited 10\/12 schools every year for 9 years delivering hands-on \u2018Bring Back the Bees\u2019 workshops and making presentations to local community groups<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Funded an Apiary in a school in Uganda to help them to learn about bees and sell honey to raise funds towards the building of a dormitory for girls which SI Rhyl & District is continuing to support financially<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Set up a club Apiary producing honey and other related products to sell in order to help fund the school workshops. Bee friendly flowers were planted near the Apiary to encourage pollination<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Attended local shows to sell our products and promote our project and the plight of the bees<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Hospital Garden Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Extended our environmental work in 2022 to successfully re-develop a large courtyard garden at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n
    • Worked closely with the hospital\u2019s estates team and students from Coleg Cambria Horticultural Department in Northop.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • The project is aimed at providing a beautiful tranquil space for the wellbeing of patients, staff and visitors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Re-cycling Initiative<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Collect plastic bottle tops which are made into garden furniture at a local factory <\/span><\/li>\n
      • Collect crisp packets which are made into sleeping bags for the homeless<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
