[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]SI Richmond & Dales have been proud, through its 2017 Jubilee Year Flagship STEM Project, to have been a catalyst to promote discussion on the\u00a0topic of STEM\u00a0in the lives of young women. Since 2016, the commitment by our members\u00a0and partners has had a significant impact and inspired at the local, regional and national levels.<\/p>\n

The Club received the SI Mary Hillary Award in recognition of our efforts, and our partners’ commitments have also been\u00a0recognised by\u00a0various commendations at a national level.<\/p>\n

After three years of investment in STEM the Club’s legacy includes the STEM platform we provided\u00a0which helped launch strategic networks and a resource base. As we move on to pursue new Soroptimist projects worldwide we\u00a0feel\u00a0confident our STEM Project\u00a0outcomes are well established, sustainable will continue to have impact and\u00a0evolve as part of the wider STEM\u00a0Developments.<\/p>\n

We would like to recognise the hard work and dedication of club members, representatives of RAF Leeming and of Judy Sheahan, whose initial idea sparked the project, STEM: jobs for the girls.<\/p>\n

June 2018 – Exciting News following the conference.<\/p>\n

We are delighted that Sgt. Kev Stannard from RAF Leeming, who played such a key role in making our STEM conference in 2017 a reality, has been awarded with an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours.\u00a0 The award recognises his dedication to ensuring\u00a0 the STEM legacy for future generations.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2848″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]12th September, 2017<\/p>\n

We’re now counting down the days to our STEM Jobs for the Girls Conference in October.\u00a0 Everything is in place for an amazing day,\u00a0we’ve come a long way, learnt so much, worked together more than ever, met so many amazing people and still the best is yet to come.\u00a0 \u00a0 Just 25 days at the time of writing, each day is important with someone in the team doing something or many things!\u00a0 \u00a0 We’re good at doing several things at once and there are other Club events happening simultaneously as we celebrate our Jubilee all year, 60 years of enabling and empowering women at home and away.<\/p>\n

We have generous sponsors and donors on board and we are very thankful for their contributions.\u00a0 \u00a0 The workshops being offered to the 190 girl students are truly exciting and there is genuine excitement at the prospect of these.<\/p>\n

A great venue for our STEM Northern Conference: \u00a0“Jobs for the Girls”<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s even more of a buzz\u00a0in the Club at the moment because we can now announce that:<\/p>\n

our STEM Conference “Jobs for the Girls” is going to be held at RAF Leeming on 5th October 2017<\/em><\/p>\n

What industry there’s been, organisation of a dedicated website, online brochure, securing funding, partners and developing a fantastic programme for the day.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 100 girls, 150 teachers, as well as educationalists, workshop providers, corporate sponsors, STEM ambassadors and incredibly inspiring speakers in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will come together for a memorable event.\u00a0 Our aim is that the conference\u00a0is just the beginning and that we will be a catalyst for further activity, impetus, involvement and a lasting legacy in our northern area to influence, enable and encourage girls to follow a path in STEM related subjects more readily than ever before.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“Jobs for the Girls”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Club’s Jubilee Year falls in 2017 and it was suggested that we should plan a celebratory year like no other.\u00a0\u00a0 How about an event that would not only produce a lasting impact for women and girls in our area but something that would challenge Club members to do something new, innovative and memorable and so it was that the idea of a conference evolved to raise awareness, engage and promote the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and opportunities to young female adults in our area.\u00a0\u00a0 The challenge was thrown down and picked up enthusiastically by the members of our club.\u00a0\u00a0 We would organise a STEM Jubilee Conference “Jobs for the Girls” in the North East and Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We’re now getting excited! \u00a0 \u00a0This conference is starting to take shape with plans already crystallising.\u00a0\u00a0 So we’re on our way, funds are being raised and meetings, research, phone calls, networking and general behind the scenes activity is going on for this special event in October 2017.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We’ll bring you exciting news as it starts to finalise and there will be tantalising glimpses of what we’re planning over the next months. \u00a0\u00a0We do know that our own SIGBI President and incredible role model Margaret Emsley will be attending and other inspirational speakers will be there too.\u00a0 So, watch this space ….<\/p>\n
