{"id":5559,"date":"2026-05-25T20:11:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T19:11:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/?p=5559"},"modified":"2026-05-25T20:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T19:21:13","slug":"sharing-our-skills-students-deliver-to-darlington-baby-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/2026\/05\/25\/sharing-our-skills-students-deliver-to-darlington-baby-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Sharing our Skills&#8217; Students and Soroptimists Deliver Milestone Donation to Darlington Baby Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>In a powerful display of community spirit and youth leadership, students from the Soroptimist International (SI) Richmond and Dales club Sharing Our Skills (SOS) programme have successfully completed a major donation drive to support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.growbaby.org\/directory\/growbaby-darlington\">Growbaby,<\/a> a baby bank based in Darlington.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/files\/2026\/05\/SOS-Students.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5563\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/files\/2026\/05\/SOS-Students-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/files\/2026\/05\/SOS-Students-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/richmond-and-dales\/files\/2026\/05\/SOS-Students.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Friday 8 May, SOS students Cara and Freya, supported by the president of SI Richmond and Dales club, hand-delivered a car full of essential baby supplies to the charity. This marked the culmination of weeks of dedicated fundraising and collection efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The project was driven by Cara and Freya, who identified the growing need for infant essentials in the region. To gather the donations, the pair:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Established\u00a0collection points\u00a0throughout Richmond School Sixth Form.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Coordinated with peers and faculty to raise awareness of Growbaby\u2019s mission.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Partnered with local Soroptimists to bridge the gap between student activism and community service.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The resulting donation included a vast array of items, ranging from clothing and nappies to essential nursery equipment, all destined for families in Darlington facing financial hardship. Members of the Soroptimist club also contributed significantly to the haul, adding their own donations to the boxes filled by Sixth Form students.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration highlights the success of the Sharing Our Skills (SOS) initiative. SOS pairs experienced professional Soroptimists with female students for mentorship, life-skills training and career development support.<\/p>\n<p>Babs Hunt, President of SI Richmond and Dales, praised the students\u2019 initiative: \u201cWe are incredibly proud of Cara and Freya. Their dedication to the Growbaby project demonstrates exactly what the SOS program is about: empowering the next generation to take action for the benefit of others.
