We always love to hear about organisations working to improve the lives of women and girls, so it was great to meet Olivia le Poldvin and Alex Halstead from the Rugby Red Box project at our September meeting. The Red Box project started in July, placing boxes in sites to collect sanitary items to help alleviate period poverty in schools. Without this support, girls’ school attendance and attainment can suffer. Support helps secure education, as well as prevent health problems. You can find out more, including where to donate, at their facebook page

July 1st saw us out and about in Caldecott Park at the summer market, talking about the work of Rugby Soroptimists, the anti trafficking campaign Purple Teardrop, and Warwickshire Domestic Violence Service.   We also met lots of people who were sure they had donations at home, for our bra banks. If you weren’t able to donate on the day, do pop in to one of our collection points around Rugby!   If you would like to be involved in these or other campaigns, to improve the lives of women and children locally, nationally and internationally, then please get in touch.

The Sun shone and people came out and Rugby Soroptimists were there. Our thanks to Deputy Mayor Tom for turning up to meet us at Draycote especially as he was suffering from a cold.    Thanks to all the Soroptimists who came out, some to walk some to collect money and other who brought cakes. Watch this space for the grand total raised when all the sponsorship money has been collected.
