5 06 2021 SI SS R Council Meeting

President Tina presided over a well attended meeting today.

Theme: SDG 13 Planet and World Environment Day.

There was feedback from Working Groups on The Way Forward:

  • Region Meeting Working Group
  • Membership Working Group

13 04 2021 Additional SI SS R Council Meeting 7pm today

SI SS R President Tina presided over this meeting. Request had been made for Club Reps plus one other Club member to attend.   Succession planning for Region discussed.

8 03 2021 International Women’s Day!

Launch of the SI SS R Playing Cards Centennial Project!

Honouring 52 special women in a unique set of playing cards, with information booklet.

President Tina welcomed SIGBI President Johanna and SIGBI President Elect Cathy to the Launch.

4 03 2021 Presentation on Benmore Avenue Project today.

President Tina welcomed Ruth Strain, Development Director, RBGE,  and Peter Baxter, Curator, Benmore Botanic Garden, to the meeting.

Assisted by Ruth, Peter gave a talk on the steps being taken to offset the effects of climate change on the 49 giant redwoods which line Benmore Avenue.

20 02 2021 SI SS R Council Meeting on Zoom today.

President Tina presided over a very well attended meeting today, where the strengths and weaknesses of the Region were considered.  There were discussions in Break-out Rooms to be considered by the Region Executive.

22 11 2020 “Created Forum” webinar today.

In her November Newsletter circulated today, President Tina said that she had been pleased to attend the “Created Forum” webinar earlier in the day.  She expressed her approval of being able to attend so many more meetings on-line from her own home, than would have been possible face to face.

The event was arranged to honour the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 25 11 2020.  Funds raised will go to Refuge, Women’s Aid, and Child in Need in India, thus supporting women and young girls in UK and across the globe.

Event Organiser:

Tara Newley Arkle, English writer, broadcaster and producer organised this event. Tara had worked with SI Weston – Super-Mare, whose members have a project entitled “Soroptimists Against Abuse”.

5 11 2020   Club Editors’ Zoom meeting today at 2.00 pm!

President Tina attended the meeting with Club Editors, arranged by the SI SS R Communications Team, to discuss experiences following the launch of the new SIGBI website in April 2020.

Resolving Problems:

Further similar meetings are planned for the New Year in order to assess progress and resolve ongoing problems.

Jenifer welcomed members and guests to this Zoom meeting from 2.00 pm. There were 31 participants.

President Tina, one of the three speakers,  brought greetings from Region. She complimented the Club members on the amount of work that they manage to do.

The Provost of Renfrewshire, Lorraine, and SIGBI President Johanna also brought greetings.

They too spoke appreciatively of the contribution to their community by Club members.

9 11 2020 SI SS R President Tina was welcomed to the meeting of SI Hamilton this evening.  Gwen Moir hosted the Zoom meeting.

Speaker:

Nicola Downie from Rape Crisis, Lanarkshire gave an account of her work on prevention, largely in schools.  She receives positive feedback from teachers and pupils alike.

The Covid -19 pandemic had impacted on her work, resulting in a temporary change of emphasis to welfare of clients and staff.

7 11 2020 First SI SS R Council Meeting of her Second Year in Office for President Tina.

President Tina welcomed members to the Zoom meeting.  46 members, including Associates, members from Scotland North and a new member, attended.

Theme:

The theme for the meeting was Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, addressing SDG 16.

16 Days of Activism 25 11 2020-10 12 2020:

Plans were made for the 16 Days of Activism 2020.   Region PA Chair Brenda Kay drew attention to resources which would be available to run a successful campaign.

SIGBI Virtual Conference, Belfast:

SI SS R had been well represented at SIGBI Virtual Conference, Belfast.  Grace, an intern from UN House had been sponsored to attend.  To read her blog click here. 

Adolescent Mental Health Webinar 14 10 2020 :

President Tina gave an update.  Report to be circulated.  Due to contacts made further similar events are being considered.

31 10 2020 Start of Second Year in Office for President Tina!

President Tina began her second year in office today at the Change of Insignia Ceremony, SIGBI 86th Federation Conference, Belfast.

This, the 86th, was SIGBI’s first ever virtual Federation Conference due to Covid -19 pandemic.

12 09 2020 President Tina completed 10 mile Virtual Kilt Walk today!

President Tina and three other Dunfermline members, Ann, Estelle and Helen, completed 10 mile Kilt Walk.

Route taken:

They walked from Vane Farm at Loch Leven to the Scots Larder and back in aid of the ‘Empowering Girls in Nepal’ project.

5 09 2020 President Tina presided over SI SS R AGM today, by Zoom!

Attendance ~ 45 members.

Guest speaker was Philip, founder of the ChoraChori Charity, currently being supported by SIGBI Federation Project ‘Empowering Girls in Nepal’.  To find out more click here.

Philip described the difficulties faced due to Covid-19.  He also mentioned other related interests in the area.

President Tina’s Closing Remarks:

Following three break-out sessions on Communications, Membership and Programme Action, President Tina thanked everyone for joining the meetings, and for the work done throughout the year.

Special Mention for following two members!

  • SI Falkirk member Audrey highlighted in the first set of the 100 4 100 women for Soroptimist Centenary 2021!
  • SI Dunfermline member Helen who won 3rd prize in the Soroptimist section of The Big Story competition, in aid of ‘Empowering Girls in Nepal.

27 06 2020 President Tina presided over Region’s first ever Virtual SI SS R Council Meeting today!

Attendance ~ 52 members, including two associate members, one from Coll and the other from Dumfries.

Updates from Clubs:

  • SI Dunfermline member Helen Lyth’s story of growing up in Kenya
  • SI Kirkintilloch’s “Jasmine and Thistle”.  Progress report on work with Syrian refugees.

Weather Effects:

Thunder and lightening and heavy rain interfered with the reception.  We all learned from this experience.
